COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Rising teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has been added to the day 2 lineup of the âRock the Rapids' concert series, announced concert promoters West Michigan Whitecaps and Blue Cap Promotions. Bieber, a 15-year-old from Stratford, Ontario, will join Flo Rida and Sean Kingston at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, August 14, presented by WSNX.
Bieber, known as Usher's teen protégé, was discovered at age 13 by music manager Scooter Braun, who found Bieber's homemade music videos on YouTube, signed him, and invited him to Atlanta. There Bieber met with Usher, who made Bieber his first signing on his own Island/Def Jam label. His debut single "One Time" was released on iTunes on July 7 and quickly jumped to #4 on the top singles downloads list; the song's video also landed more than 1.7 million YouTube views in its first day. The single entered the Billboard charts this week, sitting at #13 on the Heatseakers Songs list and at #95 on the Billboard Top 100 list. His first album, "My World," is scheduled for a fall release. In addition to singing, Bieber is considered a skilled musician who taught himself how to play drums, guitar and keyboards.
Pop-rapper Flo Rida headlines the show. His single "Right Round" shattered the all-time one-week digital single sales record, breaking the record set by his own debut single, "Low (featuring T-Pain)," in late 2007. The "Right Round" track reached platinum status (one million in sales) in just two weeks and is now 4x platinum. Flo Rida also has charted with the singles "Sugar" and "Jump" from his current album, "R.O.O.T.S." The 29-year-old Flo Rida is scheduled to perform on NBC's Today Show's Summer Concert Series on August 14, the morning of his Fifth Third Ballpark concert.
Seventeen-year-old reggae/pop singer/rapper Sean Kingston was born in Miami but has lived in Jamaica for 11 years. He has accomplished the rare task of creating a new genre where rap, reggae, dancehall, pop, a touch of doo-wop and remarkable songwriting all combine into something fresh and clean, and notably profanity-free. His 2007 self-titled debut featured the No.1 single "Beautiful Girls," and his current single "Fire Burning" sits at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart and has held steady in the top 10 for the past two months. It is the first single from his second album, "Tomorow," which will be released on August 25.
Day One of the âRock the Rapids' two-day concert features brand new hard rock supergroup Chickenfoot on August 13, presented by Miller Lite and Best Buy, whose Redline indie record label released Chickenfoot's debut album earlier this month. Chickenfoot is made up of lead singer Sammy Hagar, the "Red Rocker" formerly of Van Halen; guitar god Joe Satriani; powerhouse drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and bassist Michael Anthony, also a former Van Halen member.
Opening for Chickenfoot is 22-year-old British blues guitarist/singer/songwriter Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam, whose solo debut album âComing Up For Air' was produced by Peter Frampton and recently reached number 4 on the Billboard Blues chart.
Tickets for both of the âRock the Rapids' shows are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.whitecapsbaseball.com, by calling the Whitecaps ticket office at 616-784-4131 or at the Fifth Third Ballpark Box Office. Chickenfoot tickets are $49.50 for VIP field tickets and $29.50 advance/$34.50 day of concert for general admission tickets. Flo Rida/Sean Kingston/Justin Bieber tickets are $30 advance/$35 day of concert for reserved field tickets and $20 advance/$25 day of concert for general admission stadium seating. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. for both concerts.
