Lancaster Stormers News Release
Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Barnstormers enter Saturday night's regular season finale against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz as the #3 seed in the af2's American Conference playoff race. Iowa locked up the Midwest Division Championship last weekend with a win over Quad City, therefore ensuring them no worse than a top-three seed for the upcoming af2 playoffs.
With a record of 11-4, the Barnstormers still have the opportunity to move up to one of the Conference's top two seeds. However, in order to accomplish this, they must win Saturday night and hope for some outside help this weekend. Current #1 seed Wilkes-Barre (12-3) travels to Manchester (7-8) on Friday night. A Wilkes-Barre loss combined with an Iowa win would give the Barnstormers the top seed.
Should Wilkes-Barre win on Friday night, Iowa would still have the opportunity to move up to the #2 playoff seed. Current #2 seed Tennessee Valley (11-4) hosts South Georgia (10-5) in a game Saturday night which could determine the South Division Championship. A Barnstormer win combined with a Tennessee Valley loss on Saturday night would give Iowa the #2 seed.
When asked about his teams' chances, Barnstormers Head Coach John Gregory said "Our goal is to take care of business on Saturday by winning our matchup. Once we accomplish that, we'll see where things fall." A list of key week 17 matchups is shown below. Good seats still remain for Saturday night's game. Kick-off is set for 7:05pm. Saturday night is our second annual "Barnstormer blackout". All fans attending are encouraged to wear black.
