Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick bullpen was unable to hold a six-run lead late in Sunday night's ball game, as the Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Keys 7-6.
It was all Frederick through the first seven innings. In the first inning, 2B Bobby Stevens got the Keys on the scoreboard with a solo homerun to left, his fifth of the season.
The Keys made it a three-run lead in the third. Frederick loaded the bases with nobody out for 1B Robbie Widlansky. He lifted a sac fly to center, scoring the run from third and making it 2-0. The Keys weren't done. C Caleb Joseph singled to re-load the bases. Wilmington RHP Eduardo Paulino then threw a wild pitch, allowing another run to score, and making it 3-0.
Frederick blew the game wide open with a two-out rally in the fifth. RF Billy Rowell started it off with a double. LF Tyler Henson knocked him in with a single to left. Henson advanced to second on a passed ball, before scoring on SS Jason White's single, making it 5-0. White eventually came around to score on a DH David Cash single, extending the lead to six.
In his Keys debut, LHP Rick Zagone was stellar. He faced one over the minimum through six shut out innings, surrendering just three hits and one walk while strucking out five.
LHP Jake Stevens came in to relieve Zagone. After setting the side down in order in the seventh, he struggled mightily in the eighth. The Blue Rocks loaded the bases with one man out for LF Adrian Ortiz. The speedster drilled a double into the gap, scoring two. The next batter, CF Derrick Robinson, then knocked in a run with a single. Stevens exited, and in came Frederick new comer RHP Eddie Gamboa. The right-hander surrendered an RBI-double to 2B Johnny Giavotella, making it 6-4.
Frederick brought in closer RHP Luis Lebron to pitch the ninth. He struggled as well. The Blue Rocks loaded the bases again with one man out. For the second inning in a row, Ortiz came through. Ortiz drilled a base-claring triple to the right-center field gap, giving Wilmington a 7-6 lead.
The Keys went down in order in the home half of the ninth, sealing the deal for Wilmington. RHP Jason Godin got the win. Godin pitched 3.1 innings and allowed just one unearned run on two hits. He struck out six on the way to his first win of the season. Lebron took the loss, dropping to 2-3. LHP Brandon Sisk picked up his seventh save of the season.
Frederick and Wilmington will continue their four-game series Monday evening at Harry Grove Stadium. It's Bark in the Park Night. Dogs are allowed in the stadium. First pitch is 7:00. LHP Zach Britton is scheduled to make the start for Frederick. For ticket info, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
