Carolina League All-Star Earns Double-A Promotion

Wilmington, DE - Wilmington Blue Rocks outfielder David Lough has been promoted to the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Lough departs with the second-best batting average in the Carolina League at .320.
The former walk-on player at Mercyhurst College earned All-Star status as a Blue Rock and notched a base hit in the All-Star game played on Tuesday in Lake Elsinore, CA as the starting center fielder. Wilmington's Player of the Month in May, Lough proved a consistently clutch player. The athletic left-handed hitter posted a .407 (24-for-59) batting average with runners in scoring position. Blessed with a strong arm to go along with his solid stick, he gunned down Potomac's Michael Burgess at home plate to protect a one-run advantage in the Blue Rocks' most recent victory on Friday night.
The Clinton, OH product departs the Riverfront with the team's best on-base percentage (.370) and OPS (.843). He ranked third on the team in home runs (5), RBIs (30) and doubles (15). He batted mostly in the fifth position, but hit in the clean-up spot for the first time just last night. The team player posted the second-most sacrifice bunts on the squad (7). He made only one error while recording three outfield assists playing mostly in right field. Before the season, Baseball America ranked Lough as the 15th-best prospect in the Kansas City Royals minor league system.
Lough becomes the fifth Blue Crewer to receive a promotion on the 2009 season, joining left-handed pitchers Everett Teaford and Ben Swaggerty, right-handed hurler Aaron Hartsock and shortstop Jeff Bianchi.
The Blue Rocks begin a four-game series and road trip in Frederick tonight at 6:00 p.m. but return home on Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. game with the Kinston Indians and Mystery Night at Frawley Stadium.
