THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg salvaged a win in the three-game series against Myrtle Beach with a 6-3 win last night at City Stadium...The Hillcats went 3-4 in their seven consecutive games at Calvin Falwell Field...Tonight begins a strange section of the schedule that starts with a two-game series with the Red Sox in Salem and is followed by a two-game series against the Sox in Lynchburg...
VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are 5-1 against the Red Sox this season and are 2-1 at Salem Memorial Ballpark...The last time they met Lynchburg earned one of their five sweeps this season by winning all three games of their set at City Stadium...Last season the Cats won the season series against Salem, then the Avalanche and an affiliate of the Houston Astros, by a count of 12-8...Salem was the only team in the Carolina League that the Hillcats had a winning record against...In the all-time series Salem leads 146-132 and they are 85-55 at home...Lynchburg has won 10 out of their last 11 games against Salem...
WEIRD, WILD, WACKY STUFF: The Hillcats start a two-game series with the Red Sox tonight in Salem, and then play a two-game set in Lynchburg with the Sox...Then they head to Winston-Salem to play one game with the Dash at Wake Forest Baseball Park and return home for a three-game series at City Stadium with Winston-Salem...The strange scheduling does allow the Cats the chance to sleep in their own bed for 23 straight nights...That stretch includes the All-Star break, an off-day, 15 out of 18 games at home and three commuter away games...
COMEBACK SLUMP BUSTER: The Cats were riding a season-long four-game losing streak before their come from behind victory last night...After falling in four straight at Calvin Falwell Field, Lynchburg earned their 24th comeback win of the season and it was the 10th time this year they came back to win when trailing in the seventh inning or later...The victory kept the Hillcats from getting swept for the first time this season...
TWO-OUT RUNS: Last night Lynchburg scored five of their six runs with two outs in the inning...Their two-out run in the bottom of the third inning tied the game, a pair of two-out runs in the seventh inning turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead and two more runs with a pair of outs in the eighth would finish the scoring in the Hillcats 6-3 win...After falling behind for the second time on the night in the seventh, the Cats scored four unanswered in the next two innings to collect the victory...
TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM: Last night the Hillcats were hit by a pitch in last night's game for the sixth time in the three-game series against the Pelicans...This after a series against Kinston to closeout the first half in which the Cats got plunked by a pitch seven times in four games...Lynchburg has been hit by a pitch 13 times in the last seven games and 53 times on the season, easily the most of any team in the Carolina League (Myrtle Beach is second with 37)...
OFF AND RUNNING: INF Jose De Los Santos stole his 30th base of the season last night that helped lead to the game-tying run for the Hillcats in the seventh inning...The swipe came after six games without a steal and just one theft in his last 16 games prior to last night...This after the he stole 28 bases in his first 36 contests...
A NIGHT OF FIRSTS: INF Chase d'Arnaud went 2-for-5 last night with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in the 6-3 win...He collected his first hit, first run batted in and his first triple as a Hillcat a night ago...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Bryan Price was selected by Boston in the supplemental first round (45th overall) of the 2008 amateur entry draft out of Rice University...His junior season and final year with the Owls he went 4-4 with a a 3.72 ERA and two saves in 30 games (one start)...That same year he made his professional debut with Short-Season Low-A Lowell and posted a 1-3 record with a 3.83 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) with the Spinners...This season he began the year with Low-A Greenville and was 3-2 with a 2.45 ERA in eight starts prior to his promotion to Salem...In five starts since the call-up he has gone 0-2 with a 9.95 ERA...He made his Advanced-A debut against Lynchburg on May 28th and allowed eight runs (six earned) in a loss in Salem...Price began the season ranked as the 20th best prospect in the Red Sox system according to Baseball America...
