Left-hander Ryan Cullen has signed a deal to continue his 2009 season in Taiwan, it was announced today by the Barnstormers.
Cullen, 29, had appeared in 22 games for Lancaster during the current season, posting a 4-3 record with seven saves and a 2.08 ERA He had gone 12 consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run prior to dropping a 2-1 decision to the Long Island Ducks.
He followed that with a perfect inning during Tuesday night's Atlantic League All-Star Game in Newark.
This was Cullen's second season with the Barnstormers. The Johnson City, NY resident was 7-6 with a 2.11 ERA in 49 appearances a year ago. He recorded saves on his first 16 attempts before the streak ended on the final day of the season.
Overall, his 23 career saves as a Barnstormer is the top career mark in the five-year history of the franchise.
He had previously pitched in the Texas, Oakland and New York Mets farm systems.
"We are thankful for the effort and the professionalism that Ryan has given us for the past year and a half," said manager Von Hayes. "We certainly wish him the best."
The Barnstormers return home to face division rivals Somerset and York on a seven-game homestand beginning Monday, June 29. Bryan Helmer, Captain of the American Hockey League Champion Hershey Bears, will be in attendance on June 29 along with the Calder Cup. The Phillie Phanatic will appear on Tuesday, June 30. The rescheduled Bark in the Park night is set for July 1; rally towels will be given away as the War of the Roses resumes on July 2; and there will be a special fireworks spectacular on July 4.
