Parker to Pitch for Team USA in All-Star Futures Game

MOBILE, Ala. - Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Jarrod Parker has been named to Team USA for this year's XM All-Star Futures Game which is set to be played on Sunday, July 12 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis as part of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game festivities.

This marks the fourth consecutive season that a member of the BayBears' roster has been selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game. Last year, outfielder Gerardo Parra represented the Diamondbacks for the World roster. Justin Upton and Carlos Gonzalez both attended in 2007 while infielder Luis Cruz played for the World team in 2006.

The 20-year old right-handed Parker has been strong for the BayBears this season as he's gone 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA in 10 starts. He's third on the club with 49 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.

Named as the number one prospect in the D-backs' organization by Baseball America in the offseason, Parker was 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA in four starts at Visalia before his call-up to the BayBears. He stuck out a season-high nine hitters for the BayBears on June 7 against the Mississippi Braves.

The 11th Annual XM All-Star Futures Game will be shown live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD on Sunday, July 12 at 1 p.m. The U.S. roster will be managed by Baseball Hall of Famer and Mobile native Ozzie Smith.
