Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Cincinnati Reds have purchased the contract of left-hander Tom Cochran from the Lancaster Barnstormers, it was announced today. Cochran, who was scheduled to start tonight's series opener in Camden, will be assigned to the Reds Class AA affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats, located in Zebulon, NC, outside of Raleigh.

He will be replaced on the mound by left-hander Eddie Camacho, who will make the first start of his professional career.

Cochran, 26, started the season in Lancaster's bullpen but joined the rotation on May 13. He was 3-2 with a 4.67 ERA overall but excelled in his last start, beating the Bridgeport Bluefish, 10-2, last Saturday at Clipper Magazine Stadium. In that game, the Wilmington, DE native allowed only six hits and two runs in eight innings. He walked one and struck out five.

The southpaw has not played affiliated baseball since being released by the Boston Red Sox after the 2004 season. He spent three seasons in the Frontier League before joining the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League last year, going 13-3, earning a spring training invitation to the Reds minor league camp this year.

"This just serves as another example of how the Atlantic League works for these players who work hard," said Barnstormers manager Von Hayes. "He had a chance to open some eyes in spring training and continued to perform well here.

The Barnstormers open a six-game road trip tonight and will return home to face the same Camden Riversharks on Thursday, June 4. Tickets for all Barnstormers home games are available at www.lancasterbarnstormers.com.
