TUKWILA, WASH. (May 26, 2009) -- Kevin Forrest scored his first goal for the Seattle Sounders FC to lift his team over the Colorado Rapids, 1-0, in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Play-In game at Starfire Sports Complex on Tuesday night.

It was the second match between the two teams in three days. The Rapids and Sounders FC (6-2-4 overall, 4-2-4 in MLS) had drawn 2-2 in an MLS game Saturday at Commerce City, Colo.

Forrest, a forward in his second year out of the University of Washington, scored the game's lone goal in the 61st minute.

Midfielder Sanna Nyassi took a throw-in up the right flank . With a defender on his back, forward Roger Leveque flicked it on to find streaking Forrest to finish with a header past Rapids keeper Preston Burpo at the far post.

Kasey Keller made four saves to earn the shutout for Seattle.

With the victory, the Sounders FC earned a spot in the third round of the Open Cup, to be played on or about June 30.

Seattle, now unbeaten (3-0-4) in its last seven league and cup games, resumes MLS play with a home match on Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field against the Columbus Crew (1-2-6) on Saturday 7:30pm.
