Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- Thick fog wasn't in the forecast Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium so the Defenders Tim Alderson was able to showcase his talent in front of the home crowd for the first time and he didn't disappoint as Connecticut (21-18) evened up the series against Binghamton with a 6-3 win.

A five run third inning for the Defenders capped off with a C-Tyler LaTorre towering two run homerun over the right field wall sealed a game two victory for Connecticut.

The Defenders touched the scoreboard in the first inning with SS-Brandon Crawford's first double-A homerun over the left field wall to give Connecticut a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, 2B-Brock Bond leadoff with a walk followed by a 3B-Brad Boyer double. Crawford was retired and RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve drove in two runs with a single to left center field. 1B-Brett Pill reached on a fielder's choice then LF-Bobby Felmy crushed a shot over CF-Emmanuel Garcia's head to deliver an RBI triple (2). LaTorre completed the five run inning with his first homer of the season, Defenders lead 6-0.

Defender's starter, RHP Tim Alderson (2-0) was solid allowing three earned runs off of nine hits, striking out six in 6.1 innings in his second win of the season.

The B-Mets eventually got to Alderson in his final inning of work in the top of the seventh with three consecutive hits by Wabick, Tejada, and Garcia's RBI double. Pinch hitter Jack Eigsti and RF-Carl Loadenthal each drove in a run with groundouts as Binghamton trimmed the lead in half, 6-3.

Binghamton's starter, RHP Jose Sanchez (1-5) continued to struggle as he dropped his fifth of the year with five innings of eight hit ball, allowing six earned runs, walked four and struck out three.

In the ninth inning, Dan Otero continued his perfection picking up his tenth save in ten opportunities setting up tomorrow's rubber match.

Connecticut's RHP-Henry Sosa (2-0) will take the bump against Binghamton's RHP-Eric Brown (3-2) to decide the series in a morning ballgame at Dodd Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35am.
