
Amerks Battle Bruins Tonight

Tonight, the Rochester Americans return home to The Blue Cross Arena as they play host to the Providence Bruins. The 6:05 p.m. non-divisional matchup will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this season and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
Promotions: The game falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Red Hot Sunday promotion. All fans who wear red to the game can receive tickets for as low as $5 for 200-end seating and best available seating for $10. As part of the festivities, the Amerks will be wearing their red jerseys.
Fans can take advantage of the Zweigle's Family Four Pack, which consists of four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $55. The package can be purchased through Ticketmaser.com or at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office. Call the Amerks at (585) 454-5335 for more details.
Fans can also enjoy the Buy One, Get One Half-off special. Fans can purchase a ticket and get another for half the price in any seating section for any Sunday through Thursday game. Tickets can be purchased online only through Ticketmaster.com.
It's also the next Tickets for Troops night. Active military and veterans can present a Military ID, VA Card or an American Legion or VFW membership card and receive premium seating for just $10 or 200 End seats for $5, at least a savings of $12.25 per ticket. All tickets can be purchased directly at the Box Office window at The Blue Cross Arena.
Tonight also marks the fifth night of the Amerks' "Star Toss," with all net proceeds of the promotion going toward the recovery of Rochester police officer Anthony DiPonzio. The promotion will run during the second intermission through the Amerks' remaining 10 home games. Stars can be purchased at any Amerks home game for just $1 each or in groups of six for $5. The 23-year-old Officer DiPonzio was shot in the line of duty on January 31st. He faces a long recovery following brain surgery.
Head-to-Head: The matchup is the second of two scheduled meetings between the two clubs this season. The Amerks skated past the Baby Bruins to a 4-3 win in the only previous meeting between the two teams back on January 18th at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Amerks are 12-14-1 lifetime against Boston's American Hockey League affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (24-35-0-5, 53 points), the winners of four in its last eight, enters the contest after suffering a two-game sweep at the hands of the Lake Erie Monsters. The Amerks fell short in a 4-3 loss Friday night and followed that up with a 6-2 setback Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena. Rookie forward Michal Repik scored a goal in each game for the Amerks and first-year defenseman Keaton Ellerby scored his first goal as a professional goal in Saturday's loss.
Repik, who has a goal in each of his last three games and shows 20 points (9+11) in his last 18 games, currently paces Rochester's offense with a team-high 17 goals and 40 points. His 40 points presently rank him 14th among AHL rookies in scoring. Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison has a team-high 25 assists and remains Rochester's top scoring defenseman with 29 points overall, good enough for fourth on the team. Further, his 29 points rank him 19th among league defenseman.
Michael Duco is first on the team with 133 penalty minutes (PIM). Goaltender Mike Brodeur boasts a 16-8-3 record in 30 games for the Amerks. His 2.35 goals-against average and .925 save percentage currently rank him sixth and third among AHL netminders, respectively. Further, his two shutouts tie him for fifth in the league. Tyler Plante is 5-5-0 since his return to the Amerks and is 5-10-0 on the season with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
Player Moves: Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Florida Panthers have reassigned defenseman Luke Beaverson to Rochester from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Beaverson, 24, returns for his third stint of the season with the Amerks where he has one assist in 14 games. In 21 games with the Everblades, the first-year pro has registered three assists.
The Amerks have also signed Mathieu Roy to a 25-game professional tryout (PTO). The 22-year-old native of Amos, Quebec has appeared in 58 games this season with the Florida Everblades, registering 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points along with 109 PIM.
Providence Notes: Providence (34-24-2-4, 74 points), playing its final game of its current eight-game road trip, comes into the matchup on the heels of a five-game losing skid, which includes falling in a two-game sweep to the Manitoba Moose over the last two nights. Johnny Boychuk (16+37) and Martin St. Pierre (13+40) share the team lead with 53 points apiece. Boychuk's 37 assists tie him for 20th in the AHL while his 53 points overall are the best among league defenseman. Rookie forward Mikko Lehtonen leads the Bruin offense with 23 goals and is 10th among league rookies in scoring with 41 points. Jeremy Reich leads the team with 135 PIM. Tuukka Rask has seen the majority of time between the pipes for the Bruins, posting a 25-19-2 record with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 46 games. His 25 wins are second best among league netminders. Providence currently holds the second-place standing in the Atlantic Division.
Next Game: The Amerks remain home on Friday, March 13th as they take on the Toronto Marlies at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. North Division showdown will be the seventh of eight meetings between the divisional rivals and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. The game features the next installment of the Amerks' $7 Fridays, where fans can purchase 200 Upper End and 200 Balcony tickets for just $7. The game also falls on AAA Discount Night.
