Bulldogs stopped by Toronto

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 4-3 on Sunday in front of 7,011 fans at Copps Coliseum. The loss snapped the Bulldogs streak of four straight wins. Jeremy Williams scored three goals in the victory for Toronto.

The 'Dogs opened the game's scoring with a shorthanded marker at 16:00 of the first period. Sergei Kostitsyn received a pass from Ben Maxwell before skating one-on-one against Tim Stapleton. Kostitsyn used a deke on Stapleton before firing the puck between the legs of Toronto starting goaltender Justin Pogge.

Toronto tied the game 1-1 at 2:27 of the second stanza. While on the power play, Jaime Sifers sent a pass to Williams, who fired the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. The goal ended The Bulldogs' and Desjardins' shutout streak which had lasted for 148:35 which was only 10:04 shy of the Bulldogs franchise record for longest shutout streak by a team and a goaltender.

Hamilton regained its lead at 2:45 of the middle frame. Mike Glumac raced down the right side boards before firing a shot that sailed over the glove of Pogge. Brock Trotter and David Desharnais earned assists on the goal.

The Marlies tied the game 2-2 at 17:37 of the second period. Joe Ryan stripped the puck off a Bulldogs player before sending the puck to Ryan Hamilton. Hamilton snapped a shot through Desjardins five-hole for the goal.

Kyle Chipchura was awarded a penalty shot at 19:36 in the middle stanza but was unable to beat Pogge.

The Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead at 1:44 of the final frame. Dan Jancevski received the puck from Ryan Russell before hammering a shot on net that was tipped by J.T. Wyman. The puck bounced off Wyman's stick and past the blocker of Pogge for the marker.

While on the power play, Williams scored to tie the game 3-3. While positioned on the right point, Sifers slid the puck across the blue line to Williams, who one-timed a shot that went through traffic in front of the net and beat Desjardins. Williams scored his hat-trick goal at 16:06 while on the power play. Bates Battaglia sent the puck to Staple, who fed a pass to Williams, who was stationed at the left faceoff circle. Williams released a shot that beat Desjardins on the far side of the net.

The Bulldogs continue their five-game home stand on Friday, March 13th when they host the Manitoba Moose for a 7:30 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum.
