Abbotsford Heat News Release

It took 15 shootout rounds, but the Flames topped the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 on Sunday at the i wireless Center. With the win, the Flames remain unbeaten in regulation in their last eight home games (7-0-0-1). Kyle Greentree, Hugo Carpentier and Justin Bowers scored in regulation as the Flames built at 3-1 lead through the first half of the contest. The Admirals rallied to force an extra session on a second period goal by Nolan Yonkman and a third period tally by Patric Hornqvist. The shootout starred the netminder as Leland Irving stopped 12 of the 15 shooters he faced while Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich turned aside 11 of 15 shootout participants. Bowers ended the epic shootout with a goal in the bottom of the 15th round.

Hugh Jessiman put the Admirals in front with his 17th goal of the year at 6:09 of the first period. Jessiman snuck past the Flames defense and scored on a breakaway following a pass from Mike Santorelli. The Admirals went on to outshot the Flames 8-1 through the first half of the first period. Quad City rallied in the second half of the frame and tied the game on a power-play goal by Kyle Greentree with just 1:39 left in the period. Greentree scored by sending home the rebound from a John Vigilante chance. The marker extended Greentree's goal scoring streak to four games.

The Flames scored twice in the first half of the second period as Hugo Carpentier and Justin Bowers put the Flames in front 3-1. Carpentier scored by deflecting home a Brandon Roach point shot. Bowers followed with a goal from in close. Milwaukee responded by netting their only goal of the middle frame on a Nolan Yonkman shot from the high slot. The Yonkman marker was the final goal of the period as the goaltenders stood tally for the remaining 6:40. Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich denied Kyle Greentree on a point blank chance on the shift following the Yonkman goal. Flames netminder Leland Irving made a spectacular pair of saves late in the period as he stopped James Sixsmith's breakaway before deflecting away a Patrick Hornqvist chance on the rebound from Sixsmith's chance. Thanks to the solid late period netminding, the Flames finished the middle period with a 3-2 lead.

The Admirals forced an extra session when Patric Hornqvist scored the only goal of the third period at 7:37 of the frame. After skating scoreless through the overtime, the teams headed to the shootout. After five rounds, the shootout was tied at two goals each and the game moved into a sudden death shootout. Both teams were shutout for four consecutive rounds before trading goals in the 10th round. After four more scoreless rounds, Leland Irving denied Nick Spaling in the top of the 15th round. In the bottom of the round, Justin Bowers scored to give the Flames a 4-3 win.
