Peoria Rivermen News Release
San Antonio, Texas (January 18, 2009) - Just two nights after Ben Bishop's 48 save performance earned the Peoria Rivermen a win, Josh Tordjman returned the favor by stopping all 47 shots. The San Antonio Rampage blanked the Rivermen 2-0 on Sunday night at the AT&T Center as the Rivermen have now split the first two games of their five-game road trip.
It was the fourth shutout of the season for Tordjman and the third time this year the Rivermen have been shutout.
Peoria registered at least 15 shots in all three periods and outshot the Rampage 47-28 in the game. San Antonio had outshot the Rivermen 49-28 in Peoria's 2-1 win on Friday night.
A scoreless first period featured three fights as Eric Neilson and Francis Lessard dropped the gloves just 3:14 into the game. Alexander Hellstrom fought, for the second time this season, as he squared off with Chad Kolarik at 12:51 they were followed up just a second later by Ryan Reaves and Simon Ferguson.
A power play led to the game's first goal at 7:45 of the second period. With Andy Wozniewski off for holding, Kevin Porter put home the rebound following Bishop's save of a Jeff Hoggan one-timer. It was Porter's second of the year in his seventh game since being assigned from the Phoenix Coyotes.
Kolarik added the insurance at 14:22 of the second after wristing one over the glove of Bishop. A bouncing puck wound up on Kolarik's stick just below the hash-marks and the rookie scored his 12th goal of the season.
Jeff Cowan and Lessard completed the fight card with a bout at 17:14 in the second. Overall the Rivermen were held scoreless in their five power plays on Sunday and went 0-for-9 in the two games against the Rampage.
Peoria is 3-2-0 against San Antonio this year and the two teams will not meet again until February 18 at Carver Arena.
The Rivermen now head to Houston for a game with the Aeros from the Toyota Center on Friday at 7:35 p.m. The radio broadcast will be available on Hippie 101.1 FM and online through www.rivermen.net.
