San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (January 16, 2009) - San Antonio had the pucks flying but Justin Fletcher scored with 30.7 seconds remaining in regulation and Peoria took game one of a two game weekend series 2-1 in front of nearly 7,000 Rampage faithful.

Peoria had three power-play opportunities and outshot the Rampage 15-9 in the first period but it was Rivermen defenseman Jonas Junland's shot from inside his own blue line that skipped over the left leg pad of Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman for an improbable 1-0 Peoria lead at the 12:52 mark. Trying to clear the puck, Junland put it on-net from his offensive zone and one-hopped the puck past a stunned Tordjman.

Down 1-0 after a period, San Antonio regrouped and evened it up just 2:34 into the second when Chad Kolarik scored his 12th goal of the season. Jeff Hoggan's shot from the slot got stuck in the crease and Kolarik jabbed the puck through the guard of Rivermen goalie Ben Bishop for a 1-1 game.

The Rampage completely dominated the action in the second letting off a season-high 22 shots in the frame, but Bishop was stellar allowing just a single goal.

Even at one apiece going into the third, San Antonio continued to attack Peoria's net, but Bishop continued to stone each attempt. The Rampage got off 18 more shots in the third but it was Justin Fletcher's slap shot from the right wing wall that beat Tordjman low-glove side. Traffic from both Peoria and San Antonio screened Tordjman, who stopped 27-29, and he couldn't get to the near post as Fletcher's second goal of the season gave Peoria a 2-1 lead with 30.7 seconds remaining.

San Antonio had a season-high 49 shots and the loss drops the Rampage to 16-26-0-1.
