Devils See Sound Tigers Rally for Shootout Win, 4-3

Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - Peter Mannino's 43 saves and Jeff Tambellini's goal in the fifth round of the shootout were the difference as the Lowell Devils fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-3, on Sunday at the Tsongas Arena. Jeff Frazee made 32 saves through overtime for the Devils and has yet to lose in regulation this season - a span of eight games in which he is 6-0-2.
Already 4-2-0-0 this season when trailing after two periods, the Sound Tigers found themselves down, 3-2, heading into the third. They were able to tie the score with 2:38 remaining when Mike Iggulden sent a pass from behind the net that Jack Hillen muscled through the pads of Frazee.
After overtime went without a goal, the two teams headed to the shootout. After trading two each through four rounds, Tambellini pulled up from the slot in the top half of round five and unleashed a laser that caught the top corner. Mannino was able to get a blocker on Patrick Davis' backhand attempt to give Bridgeport their second non-regulation victory over Lowell this season.
Davis and Ryan Murphy led the offense for the Devils on this particular afternoon. Murphy gave Lowell the 1-0 lead at 4:42 of the first when a deflected pass dropped at his feet and he rifled it into the net. Over three minutes later, Davis picked up one of his three assists when he found Mark Fraser for a point shot that got past a Murphy screen and inside the near post.
The Sound Tigers started to chip into the Devils' lead at 4:38 of the second when Trevor Smith tipped in a power play goal. Anssi Salmela put Lowell back up, 3-1, at 7:11 of the same period, charging toward the net to dump the rebound of Murphy's low wrister over a diving Mannino.
Bridgeport got back within one a short time later as Rob Hennigar found Sean Bentivoglio trailing on an odd-man rush. The Sound Tigers left wing saw his initial shot saved by Frazee, but was able to whack the loose puck across the goal line.
Lowell recorded its only power play chance of the night with 17.4 seconds left in overtime.
