Albany Bolsters Roster With Second Year Blueliner From Florida Everblades
ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that the team has signed defenseman Brad Zanon to a professional tryout agreement, calling him up from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.
Zanon, 25, has four assists and a team-leading 48 penalty minutes in 20 games played for the Everblades this year. The Port Moody, British Columbia native completed his senior season at the University of British Columbia last year and then made his professional debut on March 7, 2008 with the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings at Alaska. Zanon played 14 regular season games and 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games for Victoria, and scored his first career pro point with an assist on March 19th versus Utah. Zanon played four years for the University of British Columbia, appearing in 137 career games and had 82 points (28 goals, 56 assists) and 324 penalty minutes. During his junior year (2006-07) he led the team in points (33) and goals (14), becoming the first defenseman in school history to lead the team in goals; his solid season earned him a place in the 2006-07 post-season All-Canada-West Conference All-Star team.
Zanon, who's older brother Greg is a defenseman for the NHL's Nashville Predators, will be looking to make his AHL debut tonight with Albany as the River Rats complete their weekend schedule with a 6:05 pm face off against the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Albany's next home game is set for Saturday, December 13th as they host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
