Yersich Leads Snappers Past Loons

July 30, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Greg Yersich played hero Wednesday night for the Snappers, cracking a game-tying homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and a game-winning RBI-single in the tenth. Yersich's heroics allowed reliever Chris Anderson to pick up his second win of the year.

Beloit got going first in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI-double from Juan Richardson. Richardson blasted a double to right field, scoring Mark Dolenc from first base. Dolenc's run put Beloit up 1-0 after two innings.

Great Lakes came storming back with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning. The big blow came off the bat of Erik Kanaby, who smashed a two-run single to center field. Kanaby and the Loons took a 3-1 lead after two and a half.

After the Snappers scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, Greg Yersich tied the game up with one swing in the bottom of the eighth.

Yersich blasted a homer off the scoreboard with one out to tie the game up at 3-3 after eight. From there, the Snappers and Loons took their tie game to extra innings.

The Loons were unable to do anything in the top half of the tenth and the Snappers entered the bottom half with a chance to send the Pohlman Field faithful home happy.

Rene Leveret led off with a double to center field and was pinch-ran for Allan de San Miguel. After a Mark Dolenc strikeout and a Juan Richardson line out, Yersich stepped to the plate hoping to end the game with one swing.

Greg did just that, cracking an RBI-single to center field that allowed de San Miguel to score the winning run from second base.

Rene Leveret added four hits for the Snappers who improved to 20-19 in the second half.
