Arkansas Travelers News Release

Drillers Stadium, Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Los Angeles Angels today announced that first baseman Mark Trumbo is joining the Travs from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In a corresponding move, Adam Morrissey is rejoining the Salt Lake Bees to make room for Trumbo on the Travs roster. Also, Travs righty Amalio Diaz was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for his masterful eight-inning perforance last Thursday at Springfield.

Trumbo, 22, comes to Arkansas after posting some of the best power hitting numbers of any player at the single-A level. A native of Orange, CA, Trumbo was batting .283/.329/.553 with 26 home runs and 68 RBI in 103 games for Rancho Cucamonga. Currently he leads all single-A players with 56 extra-base hits and 225 total bases.

The Angels selected Trumbo out of Villa Park (CA) High School in the 2004 draft with an 18th round pick.

Morrissey, 27, heads back to Salt Lake for a second time during the 2008 season. After the Angels resigned Morrissey in April and he played his first six weeks with the Travs, he was recalled to Salt Lake for the last week of May and most of June. He rejoined the Travs for his last 26 games playing third base and first base. In 57 games with Arkansas, Morrissey is hitting .243/.315/.352 with five homers and 24 RBI.

Diaz, 21, earns the Texas League Pitcher of the Week award on the strength of his pitching performance on Thursday, July 24. Diaz threw eight shutout innings at Springfield allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. The Travs failed to hold a 1-0 lead in the ninth inning and Diaz earned a no-decision in the 2-1 loss in ten innings. This is Diaz's second Texas League Pitcher of the Week award in two seasons, each time without winning a game.

Diaz has made three starts since coming up from Rancho Cucamonga and has a 0-0 record and 4.00 ERA. He is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday when the Travs host the Springfield Cardinals at Dickey-Stephens Park.
