Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - The magic of the 1958 Texas League Champion Corpus Christi Giants is rubbing off on this year's version of the Hooks.

Drew Sutton knocked in four runs and Jarred Ball produced four hits and a pair of RBI's as the Hooks routed first-place Frisco 12-3 Friday night before 7,286 fans at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks (7-13 in the first half) scored six times in the fifth inning thanks in part to a three-run home run by Sutton and a solo shot from Ball.

Corpus Christi has outscored the league's offensive leader 17-5 in the first two games of their series.

The support was more than enough for Andy Van Hekken, who made his Whataburger Field debut. Van Hekken (2-0) held the RoughRiders to seven hits and two runs, one earned, over seven innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Michael Schlact was not as fortunate, surrendering five runs in the first three frames. Sutton led off the home first with a single and promptly scored when Ball laced a double off the wall in center field. Two outs later, Ole Sheldon lined a single into left, giving the Hooks a 2-0 lead.

Corpus Christi added two more in the second courtesy of RBI singles by Sutton and Drew Majewski.

Sutton finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI's. Wladimir Sutil did damage out of the No. 8 spot, recording two doubles, an RBI single in the sixth and three runs scored. Ball was 4-of-5 with two RBIs.

Schlact (6-6) was tagged for 10 runs and 13 hits in 4.1 innings. He uncorked two wild pitches, one resulting in a run in the third, walked two and struck out three.

After collecting just five hits Thursday night, Frisco grounded into three double plays and struck out eight times.

Jose Oyervidez logged two innings of relief for the Hooks, surrendering a run and two hits.

The RoughRiders send hard-throwing Neftali Feliz (0-0) to the hill Saturday night. He is set to face Bud Norris (3-2).
