Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON - The Charleston RiverDogs host their first eight-game homestand of the season's second half from July 7-14 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
In a pair of four-game series, the RiverDogs welcome two Northern Division foes for the first time this season in the Lexington Legends, a Houston Astros affiliate, from July 7-10, and the West Virginia Power, a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate, from July 11-14.
First pitch for each contest is 7:05 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
Monday, July 7, begins the Lexington series with another Dogs With a Cause Night presented by WTMA. On this evening, the RiverDogs partner with the Children's Miracle Network, a local non-profit organization, to generate exposure and funds for their cause. Prior to the night's game, the opening ceremonies for the Fletcher Baseball Championship, a special summer tournament for 12-14 year old children organized by former major league infielder and RiverDogs manager Scott Fletcher, will be held.
Tuesday, July 8, marks another BI-LO Two for Tuesday presented by BI-LO, B 92 and The CW, with two-for-one discounts on upper reserve, lower reserve and general admission seating.
Wednesday, July 9, will be the wettest day of the season at The Joe with the return of Big Splash Day presented by Hutto Refrigeration and Star 99.7 FM with a special 12:05 p.m. start time. It will be a no-holds barred aquatic extravaganza with water guns, water balloons and all other hydro-related activities that will turn The Joe into one gigantic pool party.
Thursday, July 10, features another Thirsty Thursday presented by Market Street Saloon and 95 SX, with $1 food and drink specials all night in the Ashley View Pub. The RiverDogs' promotional crew will be at it again on this evening with its Condiment Wars II, in which the ever-popular ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise - instead of going on our favorite sandwiches - will be the source of all between-inning competitions. Fans can also vote for their favorite condiment when entering the park that night, and the results will be posted on-line at www.riverdogs.com.
The West Virginia Power journeys to the other Charleston in the South Atlantic League for the start of their four-game series on Friday, July 11, for a Force Protection Red Shirt Friday presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc., WEZL and WTAT. Fans who wear a red shirt to Friday night home games will receive $1 off their ticket price at the box office, and will then have the option to donate that dollar to support service families. The RiverDogs wear special red jerseys on Friday home games, which will be auctioned off at the end of the season to support Charleston Area Service Men and Women.
The newly-crowned Clown Prince of Baseball, Myron Noodleman, will be on hand to entertain and perform between innings, and of course the wonderful Friday Night Fireworks will again illuminate the Lowcountry sky following the night's contest.
Saturday, July 12, pays homage to the RiverDogs' skipper with the Torre Tyson Appreciation Night, with a Torre Tyson Muscle Shirt Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles that evening, presented by CarMax and WCBD-TV 2. Charleston's second-year manager will be honored throughout the game with photos and video clips that have made him such a popular and loveable figure from much of the RiverDogs faithful.
Before the game, the Charleston police vs. firefighter charity softball game takes place from 5 to 6:15 p.m., as the people who defend and protect our area have a chance to engage in friendly competition to see which is the superior unit ... on the field of play.
Sunday, July 13, celebrates Family Sunday at The Joe presented by the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Center and MUSC Sports Medicine. The highly-renowned Dora the Explorer visits the Holy City for this game to sign autographs and take pictures for all children who have made her show one of the most popular series in the nation.
Monday, July 14, closes out the homestand with another Dogs With a Cause Night presented by Chuck 96.1 FM. On this evening, the RiverDogs partner with the Make A Wish Foundation, which is perhaps the most well-known and respected non-profit organization in the country, to generate exposure and funds for the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.
The RiverDogs get a rare day off on Tuesday, July 15, before an eight-game sojourn to two more Northern Division opponents: the Kannapolis Intimidators, a Chicago White Sox affiliate, from July 16-19, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers, a Florida Marlins affiliate, from July 20-23.
For ticket information, contact the RiverDogs box office at (843) 577-DOGS, or visit the team's website at www.riverdogs.com.
