Jackets Win Seventh Straight Home Game

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 13-3) won their third straight game over the Charleston RiverDogs (45-25, 5-10) with a 5-2 win on Friday night. Both teams waited out a 1:35 rain delay to get the game started and Augusta broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning on a two-run double from Thomas Neal.

Nick Noonan and Garrett Baker led off the sixth inning with back-to-back singles then both runners moved up a base when Angel Villalona flew out to deep left field. Neal followed with a two-run double for a 4-2 Augusta lead. Andrew Davis came up next and connected for an RBI single to cap off the scoring.

Wilmin Rodriguez (1-0) recorded the win working three shutout innings in relief. Rodriguez allowed one hit and struck out three.

David Mixon worked a perfect ninth recording one strikeout for his second save of the season.

Augusta took the early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double from Garrett Baker scoring Shane Jordan and Noonan.

The RiverDogs tied the game in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Prilys Cuello and then a passed ball on catcher Elio Sarmiento allowed Carmen Angelini to score the tying run.

Starter Madison Bumgarner got the no-decision allowing two runs on six hits over five innings of work. The lefty walked one and struck out five.

Charleston starter Dellin Betances also received a no-decision and retired 14 straight batters after Baker's RBI double in the first inning. James Simmons broke up the streak with a two-out single in the fifth inning.

The GreenJackets look to complete the four game series sweep over Charleston on Saturday night with Augusta sending lefty Craig Clark (6-1, 4.00) to the mound. The RiverDogs counter with right-hander Jairo Heredia (3-2, 2.96). First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
