Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (9-6) used a late run to defeat the West Virginia Power (10-5) 4-3 on the Fourth of July. With two outs in the eighth inning Travis Reagan drove in Valerio Heredia to score the deciding run at Appalachian Power Park.

Hagerstown put up three runs in the first inning on just two hits. Power starter Evan Frederickson was wild in his debut as he walked three batters and tossed five wild pitches in the opening frame to allow the three runs.

West Virginia struck back with a run in the bottom of the first. Second baseman Eric Farris hit a ground rule double to left field with one out. Left fielder Eric Fryer brought Farris around with a double to left centerfield.

The Suns were shut down from the first inning until the eighth. Curtis Pasma was spectacular for the Power out of the bullpen. The lefty worked three innings and did not allow a base runner.

The Power would tie the game with single runs in the sixth and the seventh inning. Third baseman Zelous Wheeler homered to left field in the sixth. The home run was the seventh on the year for Wheeler. Farris drove in shortstop Matt Cline with a single in the seventh.

Kyle Gunderson (4-1) picked up the win for the Suns with two and two thirds innings of work. Corey Frerichs (3-5) took the loss for the Power.

The Power and Suns hit the field again for game three tomorrow evening at 7:05 from Appalachian Power Park.
