New Britain Rock Cats News Release
Game 1 (Completion of suspended game from Sat., June 14)
New Britain, CT - New Britain pitchers shut down Binghamton batters in the final seven innings, but the damage was already done the night before as the B-Mets downed the Rock Cats 7-3 in a completion of Saturday night's suspended game.
The game began Friday night when Binghamton knocked Rock Cats starter Anthony Swarzak out of the game after just 2/3 innings. The B-Mets struck Swarzak (3-3, 4.74) for four earned runs on five hits and one walk to take a 6-0 lead after one inning.
The B-Mets tacked on another run in the top of the second off reliever Jason Miller before heavy rain forced the game to be suspended. The teams took the field again on Sunday, with Binghamton ahead, 7-0. Miller took the mound again and finished with four hits and one run through 3 1/3 innings.
Eude Brito (3-1, 2.78) tossed four scoreless innings with just one hit over four innings in relief to pick up the win. Saloman Manriquez led the B-Mets with four hits.
The Rock Cats made a late charge with a three-run eighth inning. Erik Lis started things off with an RBI triple to center field to put the Rock Cats on the board, 7-1. Lis scored on a passed ball and Drew Butera added an RBI double, but the Rock Cats' rally fell short. Zach Ward fired four shutout innings in relief, striking out four, for the Rock Cats. Yohan Pino added a scoreless ninth.
Game 2
New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats broke out for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Binghamton 5-1 in the second game of Sunday afternoon's doubleheader.
Dustin Martin led off the bottom of the first with a home run to center field to give the Rock Cats an early 1-0 lead.
Oswaldo Sosa fired five scoreless innings. He limited the B-Mets to four hits and struck out five. Sosa handed the ball over to reliever Frank Mata, who allowed a solo home run to Jonathan Malo that tied the game, 1-1 in the sixth inning.
The offense bailed out Mata in the bottom of the inning. David Winfree and Matt Moses hit back-to-back singles before Drew Butera cleared the bases with a double to center field. Rodolfo Palacios added an RBI single and Martin (3-for-4) tacked on an RBI double.
Robert Parnell (5-4, 4.62) suffered the loss with five runs on ten hits through 5 2/3 innings.
