St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (June 14, 2008) - When you haven't given up an earned run in 22.2 innings pitched many people take notice. For St. Paul Saints reliever and Hamline graduate Kyle Foster it was the Boston Red Sox as they purchased his contract and will send him to Single-A Greenville of the South Atlantic League.

The 23-year-old Foster was nearly flawless in 2008 going 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA and one save in 22.2 innings pitched. In 13 games out of the bullpen he allowed just two unearned runs, which came last Tuesday night, while walking five and striking out 19 as the opposition hit a miniscule .185 against him.

"There isn't anyone in this league that deserves the opportunity more than Kyle," said Saints manager George Tsamis. "He's a great kid and has been great since he got here."

Foster signed with the Saints on May 25, 2007 and allowed just one earned run in his first seven appearances (10.0 IP). He finished the season 0-1 with a 4.78 ERA in 21 games (one start). In 43.1 innings pitched he walked 16 and struck out 39.

He played for Hamline University for four seasons and as a junior was named All-MIAC honorable mention and followed that up with an All-MIAC first team selection in his senior season. In his final season at Hamline he was 7-5 with a 3.25 ERA in 15 games (11 starts) while tossing five complete games and two shutouts. In 69.1 innings pitched he walked 19 and struck out 65.

The Saints roster now stands at 20 players, eight pitchers and 12 position players. The Saints can carry a maximum of 22 players.
