New Britain, CT - With the calendar now reading "June" - and the 2008 Eastern League Season, incredibly, nearing the half-way pole - the Rock Cats arrive back at New Britain Stadium tonight (6/10) to start their 6th Homestand of the year. And, in addition to the exciting week of baseball that will commence in the Hardware City this evening, Rock Cats fans of all ages will once again be treated to a variety of pre-game entertainment, promotional giveaways, and on-field ceremonies - not to mention a post-game Fireworks Extravaganza, exciting après-game contests for fans, and smiling Dads and Kids Running the Bases and Playing Catch on the Outfield lawn after Sunday afternoon's Father's Day Game! All the ingredients have been assembled so that fans of all ages can have tons of fun over the next six days and nights at New Britain Stadium.
Here are the details related the Rock Cats' 6th Homestand of 2008:
TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 10th, 6:35 PM: The Rock Cats will kick off the homestand in fine style by welcoming the Altoona Curve, Eastern League partners of the National League's Pittsburgh Pirates, to New Britain Stadium for their first and only visit of the year. The team that spawned old pal Bronson Arroyo will be with us for three-games-in-three-days between tonight and Thursday evening. And as both the âCats and Curve played a highly competitive series just last week in Pennsylvania, the Rock Cats hope they can even the score by taking this series on their home turf. And it's also Rock Cats Youth Jersey Giveaway Night at the Stadium tonight, whereby the first 1,000 kids (12 and under) through the gates will receive a replica Rock Cats uniform jersey courtesy of our friends at Webster Bank. These good looking kids' jerseys are game-ready! In addition, since its Tuesday, it's also Kids Eat Free Night in New Britain, sponsored by our friends at Harte Nissan. Bring the kids and come early!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 11th, 6:35 PM: The Rock Cats will be entertaining the Curve in another mid-week, 6:35 PM game on Wednesday night. In addition to the exciting action on the field, Wednesday night is also Backpack Giveaway Night, courtesy of our pals at Citizens Bank. Beyond that, Wednesday is also Family 4-Pack Night at the Stadium whereby fans - courtesy of SBLI - get 4 Reserved Seats, 4 Hot Dogs, 4 Pop Corns, and 4 Sodas for only $30. Such a
deal! To top things off, Wednesday is also Polish Heritage Night at the Stadium; the evening will feature authentic Polish food and pre-game musical entertainment.
THURSDAY NIGHT, JUNE 12th , 6:35 PM: The Curve - those talented mini-Buccos! - will be back for the series' finale at 6:35 PM on Thursday night. And before the exciting on-field action gets underway - fans of all ages will have a chance to line-up and meet the Rock Cats players between 5:00 and 5:30 PM on the field. Bring your kids, camera and autograph book! Thursday evening will also be the occasion for the Rock Cats to celebrate the United States Army's 233rd Birthday! To mark the glorious milestone, the Rock Cats and the Army will team up to distribute camoflauge baseballs and t-shirts! There will be 1,000 of each for both kids (baseballs) and adults (t-shirts). A special 5:00 PM Social Hour will add to the celebration - come salute your favorite GI in the pre-game Happy Hour at the Sam Adams Rooftop Bar and Grille! A ball game, a beer, and an opportunity to say "thanks!" to the men and women who have made it all possible. Thank you all!
FRIDAY NIGHT, JUNE 13th, 6:35 PM: With the Curve now headed out of town toward their next destination, in for the weekend come the Binghamton Mets, Eastern League partners of the National League's New York Mets. Climbing fast in the EL's Northern Division standings, the mini-Mets are loaded with talent, meaning the Rock Cats will have their hands full with this bunch over the weekend. As it's the end of another work week - and the first Friday of the month in New Britain - the Rock Cats will be staging a spectacular post-game Fireworks Show, presented by our good friends at Stanley Tools. Come early, stay a little late, and enjoy!
SATURDAY NIGHT, JUNE 14th, 6:35 PM: Game 2 of this 3-game weekend set between the Rock Cats and mighty Mets will feature a Travel Mug Giveaway to the first 1,200 adults through the turnstiles, thanks to our friends at Dattco Transportation. Moreover, the enormously popular Stadium entertainer - Dancing Christopher - will be back with us on Saturday night, thanks again to Dattco. And, once the on-field action has been settled, fans can create their own fun by coming forward for the Saturday night staple - the AT&T Post Game Launch-A-Ball contest - an activity that allows patrons of all ages the opportunity to win great prizes - while also aiding those in need, since all proceeds go to the Rock Cats Foundation. Everybody wins!
SUNDAY AFTERNOON, JUNE 15th, 1:35 PM: The quick Homestand's final game takes place on Sunday afternoon - and again features the Curve from the Keystone State. Beyond the professional baseball action on the field, - as it is also Fathers' Day at the Stadium - the Rock Cats and Mills Stores are teaming up to provide the first 1,500 kids/fathers through the gates with a Mini-Wood Bat Giveway. Moreover, as it's Sunday, its also the Barnum Financial Group's Family Fun Day, featuring a Post-Game Kids Run The Bases event and a postgame Father -Child Catch on the field - a joyful activity that both helps families make Fathers' Day memories - and concludes the homestand by sending everybody home with a smile. Bring Dad out for the game...and make sure he brings his glove!
The New Britain Rock Cats are the AA, Eastern League affiliate of the American League's Minnesota Twins. The Rock Cats play a 142-game schedule each year, with 71 of those games set at affordable and easily accessible New Britain Stadium.
