Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts had their winning streak snapped at six games as the Fort Wayne Wizards took the series opener 4-2 in front of 5,923 at Oldsmobile Park Thursday night.

The Lugnuts led the game 2-1 in the fifth inning before the Wizards were able to take advantage of one of Lansing's four errors in the contest in order to take the lead. Lance Zawadzski reached on a fielding error by Justin Jackson. Zawadzski would then score on Justin Baum's double into left field that tied it 2-2. Felix Carrasco followed that with his 11th homer of the year, a two-run shot to left that put the Wizards up 4-2.

Lansing scored its runs in the second and third innings. Moises Sierra and Manny Rodriguez had back-to-back doubles in the second to put the Lugnuts ahead 1-0.

Jackson's RBI single in the following frame answered a Fort Wayne run and allowed Lansing to regain the lead at 2-1.

Jeremy Hefner (4-3) picked up the win for the Wizards after turning in a quality start. He threw six innings and gave up two runs on six hits.

Jackson Quezada closed out the ninth for his 13th save, as the Lugnuts had two men on but failed to score.

Brad Mills (4-3) suffered the loss after giving up four runs, two of which were earned, over four innings of work.

Lansing (34-28) and Fort Wayne (32-28) will continue the series on Friday night, as the Wizards are now just two games behind the Lugnuts in the Eastern Division race with 10 games to play in the first half. Trystan Magnuson (0-6, 7.64) will take the mound for Lansing. He will be opposed by Fort Wayne's Geoff Vandel (2-1, 5.63).

LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game, which is set for 7:05 p.m.
