Jackson Drives in 7 Runs in 15-5 Trenton Victory over Reading

(Reading, PA)- Trenton CF Austin Jackson tied a franchise-record with 7 RBI as Trenton routed Reading 15-5 on Wednesday afternoon at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. Trenton had a season-high in hits (18) and runs (15) in its fifth straight victory. Trenton has now won 13 of its last 16 games.
Trenton (29-15) scored four runs in the first inning off of Reading starting pitcher Kip Bouknight (3-5). LF Edwar Gonzalez had an RBI double, and 3B Kevin Russo had a two-run double as part of the big inning. Gonzalez finished the game with 3 H and 2 R. Russo had 4 H, 2 R, and 2 RBI. It was the second time this season that Russo had 4 H in a game. The Thunder plated four more runs in the 4th inning on a grand slam by Jackson to make it 8-0. The home run was Jackson's second of the season, and the first GS for a Thunder player since 1B Juan Miranda on July 8, 2007 at Harrisburg.
After Reading tallied a run in the bottom of the 4th inning off of Thunder starting pitcher Phil Coke, Trenton RF Jose Tabata connected on his first Double-A home run in the 5th inning. The two-run shot was off of Reading reliever Jason Kershner, which increased the lead to 10-1. Tabata finished the game with 3 H, 2 R, and 4 RBI. Up 12-3 in the 8th inning, Jackson capped off his career-game with a three-run triple off of Reading reliever Fabio Castro. Jackson's 7 RBI game tied a franchise record with Israel Alcantara (4/11/99), Jorge DeLeon (6/13/00) and most recently Aaron Rifkin (8/23/03). Jackson increased his RBI total on the season from 11 to 18.
Thunder starting pitcher Phil Coke (3-1) went 6 IP to earn the win, his third straight winning decision. He gave up 4 H and 2 ER. He also struck out 6 and walked 4. Bouknight gave up 6 H and 8 ER in 4 IP in the loss.
Trenton will go for the sweep over Reading, and its 6th straight win tomorow morning at 11:05 AM. RHP Jason Jones (6-0, 2.20) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP J.D. Durbin (0-0, 0.00).
