Connecticut Defenders News Release

Binghamton jumped ahead of the Defenders in the first inning as Mike Carp chopped a single up the middle to score Dan Murphy from second as the Mets took a 1-0 advantage.

The B-Mets would plate another run in the third as Nick Evans laced an RBI single to left field to bring home Murphy for the second time.

Meanwhile, Jonathon Niese was dealing for the visiting Mets. Niese tossed four and a third hitless innings before giving up a single to Simon Klink. Klink was later cut down at second on a fielder's choice by Nestor Rojas. Jake Wald followed with a slap single through the hole on the left side of the infield as Kyle Haines would bat with runners on the corners. Haines wasted no time as he drilled a base hit to left field. Rojas scored easily but Wald attempted to score from first on the knock but was retired at the plate on a good relay play by the Mets. After five, Binghamton clung to a 2-1 lead.

Connecticut had a good chance to score in the sixth inning as the Defs left the bags full to end the frame.

Martinez suffered his fourth loss of the season as he fell to 2-4 as Niese improved to 3-4. Eddie Kunz secured his tenth save in as many tries as he threw one and third scoreless innings.

The Defenders will finish off the series with the Mets on Thursday for an afternoon affair. First pitch will be thrown at 10:35am and tickets are still available at ctdefenders.com or by calling the ticket office at (860) 887-7962.
