April 15, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
Beloit, Wisconsin-Chris Parmelee drilled a two-out, game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Beloit Snappers defeated the Dayton Dragons 8-6 on Tuesday. Parmelee also collected a single, double, and sacrifice fly in the game and drove in seven runs.
The Dragons dropped to 7-5 with the loss. Beloit improved to 5-8.
Parmelee's heroics spoiled a ninth inning comeback by the Dragons and a big night by Keltavious Jones. Dayton scored two runs in the ninth to tie the game while Jones collected a double, triple, and home run.
Beloit jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Joe Benson singled to left and Steve Singleton reached on a bunt single. Jamie Arneson's wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, and sacrifice flies by Garrett Olson and Parmelee made it 2-0.
Dennis Phipps lined a home run to left with one out in the Dayton second to get the Dragons on the board. In the third, Jones tripled to left and scored on Kevyn Feiner's single to tie the game at 2-2. After Feiner was thrown out attempting to steal second, Todd Frazier homered to left, his fifth of the season, to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.
But Beloit bounced back in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Parmelee delivered a two-run single with one out to make it 4-3. Then in the fifth, Parmelee added a two-run double to put Beloit ahead 6-3.
Jones connected on his first home run of the season in the eighth, a solo shot, to make it 6-4.
In the ninth, Jake Long led off for Dayton with a single and went to second on Jason Bour's single. Justin Reed bunted into a fielder's choice, but Jones walked to load the bases with one out. Feiner grounded to second into a fielder's choice as Bour scored to make it 6-5, and Reed raced in from third on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Parmelee's home run in the 11th with Steve Singleton aboard represented the first runs allowed this season by Enerio Del Rosario (1-1) and the first runs given up by any Dragons relief pitcher since Wednesday's game against Fort Wayne.
The Dragons will close out the trip on Wednesday in the third game of the series in Beloit at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). Luis Montano (1-0, 1.74) will start for Dayton against Beloit's Michael Tarsi (0-2, 16.71).
The Dragons open a six game homestand Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Clinton Lumber Kings at Fifth Third Field.
Notes: Jones extended his hitting streak to five straight. He is 10 for 20 over those five games...The eight runs scored by Beloit were the most this season by a Dayton opponent...Two players and Beloit manager Nelson Prada were ejected in the ninth inning for arguing an obstruction call that prolonged the Dragons inning, but the play did factor into any scoring...The Dragons plan to activate starting pitcher Andrew Bowman during the upcoming series with Clinton and he is expected to start Sunday's game. Bowman started against Great Lakes on April 6th and tossed three scoreless innings before leaving the game with forearm soreness.
