Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI -- Wynn Pelzer got a little wild in the ninth, but picked up his first pro win with a little help. The Fort Wayne Wizards beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3 Tuesday night on time Warner Cble Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Luis Martinez had a pair of hits and three RBI to lead the Fort Wayne offense and send the Rattlers to their third straight loss.
Rattler starting pitcher Rob Harmon walked the first three Wizard batters in the top of the second. Martinez doubled down the first base line to drive in a pair of runs. A two-out infield single by Brad Chalk drove in the final run of the inning for the Wizards (4-9).
Fort Wayne tacked on another run in the top of the third. Lance Zawadzki singled and stole second. Yefri Carvajal singled with one out to drive in Zawadzki for a 4-0 lead.
Catcher Korey Feiner got the Timber Rattlers (3-6) on the board in the bottom of the third inning. He lined a 2-2 pitch from Brandon Gomes over the left field wall for the first homer by a Rattler this season.
Wisconsin chipped away at the Fort Wayne lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Alex Liddi doubled with one out. An infield single by Juan Diaz and a throwing error on the play allowed Liddi to score.
But, Fort Wayne went back up by three runs in the top of the eighth. Andy Parrino drew a leadoff walk Martinez followed with a triple to right field and Fort Wayne led 5-2.
Pelzer was sharp in his first three innings of work as he struck out six without allowing a hit. But, he lost the strike zone in the ninth. He walked three and left with two outs. Tyler Davis entered the game to close it out, but Daniel Carroll had other ideas. His infield single drove in a run, pulled the Rattlers to within 5-3, and put the winning run on first base. Then, Davis managed to get Calvin Beamon to ground into a force out at third to end the game.
The three-game series wraps up on Wednesday afternoon. Juan Ramirez (0-1, 3.00) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Allen Harrington (0-0, 3.27) gets the ball for the Wizards. Game time is 12:05pm.
