Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Burlington, Iowa- The Lansing Lugnuts entered Tuesday night's game with the Burlington Bees in desperate need of a strong pitching performance after allowing 15 runs in the previous two games. They received it from Kyle Ginley, who was dominant in his start, leading the Lugnuts to a 5-1 win over the homestanding Bees at Community Field.

Ginley (2-0) was fantastic in his third outing of the year, as he threw 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball while scattering eight hits. He also matched a career-high by striking out 10 Bees in the game while walking just one batter.

Lansing provided some run support for Ginley in the fifth inning when Justin Jackson's double to center field plated Mike McDade to make it a 1-0 game. Moises Sierra tried to score from first base on the play, but was thrown out at home, keeping it a one-run game.

The Lugnuts added another run in the sixth when Darin Mastroianni tripled off of the center field wall and scored on a Jonathan Jaspe sacrifice fly to push the lead to 2-0.

Lansing tacked on three runs of cushion in the ninth inning to seal the game. With two men on, Jackson lined a triple into the right-center field gap that scored Manny Rodriguez and Sierra, making it a 4-0 game. Raul Barron's RBI single to left brought Jackson home to push the lead to 5-0.

Cody Crowell got the save for Lansing by tossing the final 2 1/3 innings and allowing only a ninth inning solo homer to Clint Robinson.

Matt Mitchell (0-1) pitched well but took the loss for the Bees after hurling six frames and allowing just two runs to cross the plate.

Lansing (8-4) and Burlington will play the final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon as each club has taken one game so far. Southpaw Nate Starner (0-1, 0.90) will take the mound for the Lugnuts, while righty Ed Cegarra (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the Bees. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
