Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (April 15, 2008) The Burlington Bees scored one run or less for the fourth time this season Tuesday night as the Lansing Lugnuts were victorious at Community Field 5-1. A solo homerun off the bat off Clint Robinson in the bottom of the ninth inning put the Bees on the scoreboard but it was not enough to win.

Both teams had great starting pitching as no one scored through the first four innings of the game. In both the fifth and sixth innings, the Lugnuts were able to put a run across against Bees starter Matt Mitchell. In all, Mitchell pitched six innings allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk. The two runs that Mitchell allowed were the first two runs he allowed all season long. He took the loss, which was his first decision this season.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bees had the tying run on but could not get it across after the Lugnuts brought in Cody Crowell from the bullpen. After the Bees went down in order in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lugnuts broke the game open by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Manny Rodriguez led the inning off with a double but stayed at second as Eduardo Paulino put the next two hitters down via the strikeout. After a walk, Justin Jackson hit a triple to score two runs. Raul Barron then had another two-out RBI as he singled Jackson in from third.

In the bottom of the ninth with one out and nobody on, Robinson belted a solo homerun but that was the only run the Bees put up. Adrian Ortiz, David Lough and Robinson each had two hits. In all the team put up nine hits, which was only two less than Lansing, but left seven runners on and had two runners thrown out when attempting to steal.

With the three-game series tied at one game each, the two teams return to the Field on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 in the morning at Community Field. Ed Cegarra, who has not allowed a run this season, will take the mound for the Bees. He will be opposed by Nate Starner, who has a .90 ERA.
