Fireworks, Kaaihue Explode Friday at Arvest Ballpark

Springdale, AR- After suffering a disappointing home opening loss, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (3-5) made some fireworks of their own Friday night, as they defeated the San Antonio Missions (4-4) by the tally of 11-4.

With the Naturals down a run in the bottom of the eighth Kila Kaaihue came up to the plate with a 2-2 count and the bases loaded and hit the first ever grand slam in Naturals' franchise history giving the Naturals the lead for good. The Naturals managed to score a season-high eight runs in the eighth inning. Kaaihue's third long-ball on the young season helped him finish with a season-high five RBI in the game. Shortstop Angel Sanchez and third baseman Mario Lisson also combined to go 3-for-9 on the night with four RBI.

On the mound for the Naturals was Rowdy Hardy, who bounced back from a rough first start. The southpaw pitched five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, striking out two and not issuing a walk. Pitcher Devon Lowery (1-0) picked up the victory for the Naturals, tossing two innings giving up only one run on two hits, striking out three and didn't surrender a walk.

For the Missions, Chad Huffman and Kyle Blanks combined to go 4-for-7 with two RBI on the night. Starting pitcher Matt Buschmann had a great start going five innings allowing just one run on four hits, punching out four batters and walked one. Missions' reliever Jonathan Ellis (1-1) picked up the lost, after surrendering the grand slam to Kaaihue.

The Naturals will be at it again on Saturday night, as they play the final game of the series against the San Antonio Missions at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night will feature an encore appearance by Jake the Diamond Dog and the first 5,000 fans will receive a Magnet Schedules presented by AIG.
