Everett Silvertips News Release

Silvertips' Home Playoff Schedule

The Silvertips will be hosting the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday, March 26th (7:05 pm) and Friday, March 28th (7:35 pm). If the Everett wins either of those games, there will also be a home game on Saturday, March 29th (7:05 pm). Everett was 3-0-0-1 against Spokane at home during the regular season, and with the most important time of the year underway, we want to make sure that the building is packed, the cowbells are ringing, and fans are making as much noise as they possibly can!

Silvertips Return Home Looking for Change in Fortune

The sound of cowbells on Friday and Saturday were droned out by the cascades of cheers heaved upon the home team as the Everett Silvertips found Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena to be anything but accommodating. Following two losses to the Spokane Chiefs, Everett returns home to friendlier confines and an always raucous Comcast Arena where they hope their effort will result in better fortunes.

Even though the Silvertips sported a genuinely healthy lineup for the first time since the early stages of the season, they had difficulty limiting Spokane's offense, which went 5-14 on the power play while generating 89 shots on goal. Head Coach John Becanic did not see the infusion of fresh faces in the lineup and players' roles adjusting as the issue.

"I don't know if that's necessarily the problem," Becanic stated. "Right now it's just a matter of execution. Our plan is good. It's just a matter of executing our plan."

While the offense has remained virtually intact all season, save for a few bumps and bruises along the way, it has been the defense that has constantly adjusted to evolving roles. Taylor Ellington, the stalwart of Everett's defensive corps for four seasons, missed 21 games with a broken foot before returning Friday night. Mike Alexander, Graham Potuer, Chris de la Lande and Tyler Kieffer also dealt with injuries over the second half of the season. Still, the Silvertips worked through the injuries and finished the second half 21-14-0-1 even though four rookies were often dressed on defense over that stretch. Now that the players are familiar in their roles once again and Everett will be returning home to more advantageous line changes, Becanic expects to see much tighter games.

"Obviously when you have the last line change, as they did, you have [Tyler] Johnson's line out, and Hamill really struggled to win faceoffs against Johnson. They did a good job shutting him down. I tried mixing the lineups a bit to get up to try making some adjustments. It got us a goal, but it cost us a goal. Having home ice advantage gives you the last line change, and I'll get the matchup we want here and hopefully allow them to be a bit better."

The 'Tips will also be looking to score the game's first goal. In the season series, the team that scored first finished 6-0-0-2, while Spokane has outscored Everett 4-0 in the first period of the playoffs thus far. Becanic sees that first goal as being instrumental towards winning chances, as Everett has gone 420 minutes of hockey since their last lead, a 2- 1 win at Portland on March 7th.

"We need to get the lead early and see how our team responds. We need to see how their team is when they're not playing with the lead."

Everett Silvertips Fifth Annual Hockey Camp

During the warm Snohomish County summer, there is no better way for local youths to beat the heat than hitting the ice and playing hockey, which is why the Everett Silvertips are excited to announce their fifth annual summer hockey camp schedule.

The goal of the Everett Silvertips Summer Hockey Schools is to enhance player development through qualified, professional instruction and innovative, challenging programs. The schools will focus on hockey fundamentals, skills, tactics and systems. Our coaches and counselors will emphasize the importance of the characteristics the Silvertips expect of their WHL stars. A strong work ethic, teamwork and sportsmanship will be encouraged. The Everett Silvertips Summer Hockey Schools mandate is to provide all of this for, your son or your daughter in an enthusiastic and fun atmosphere.

The Summer Camp (July 28 - August 1) is designed for any level hockey player, ages 7-13. This camp is an opportunity for young athletes to learn the game of hockey in a fun environment, while the Silvertips coaching staff is dedicated to high quality instruction for all levels. Each camper will have 2.5 hours of ice time and 30 minutes of classroom sessions each day.

The Elite Camp(August 4 - August 8) is designed for competitive hockey players, ages 10-15 looking to gain an edge. This will be an intense training regiment that will include both on and off-ice segments. The off-ice training will include classroom discussions using NHL video clips and dry land training seminars with the Silvertips Staff. On-ice sessions will consist of skill development, tactical play, and small area games. Each camper will have 2.5 hours of ice time and 30 minutes of classroom sessions each day.

Each of the camps will feature professional instruction from current Silvertips coaches as well as from current and former WHL players. Instruction over the five day camp will include power skating, passing, shooting, positioning, small games, in-depth goaltending instruction and off-ice conditioning.
