LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Albany (1/9): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Albany River Rats at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday evening in a 3-1 loss, prolonging their home losing streak to six games. Center Brian Boyle scored the lone goal for Manchester. Right wing Jerome Samsone, center Dave Gove and right wing Jakub Petruzalek lit the lamp for Albany. Monarchs netminder Erik Ersberg took the loss with 25 saves. River Rats goaltender John Grahame stopped 27-of-28 shots for the win. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Albany was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

At Rochester (1/11): Left wing Matt Moulson scored on two rebounds off shots from his defensemen positioned at the points as the Manchester Monarchs battled through to a 3-2 win over the Rochester Americans at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday night. Right wing John Zeiler added a tally to Moulson's pair for the Monarchs. The Americans collected goals from left wing Kenndal McArdle and center David Brine. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg earned the win with 21 saves. Americans netminder Adam Dennis took the loss stopping 25-of-28 shots. Manchester and Rochester each went 0-for-3 on the power play.

At Binghamton (1/12): Goaltender Daniel Taylor snubbed three of four shootout snipers to give the Manchester Monarchs their second consecutive win, a 3-2 shootout victory over the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. Center Brady Murray and right wing Teddy Purcell's regulation goals combined with shootout tallies from center David Meckler, center Trevor Lewis and Purcell lifted the Monarchs to victory. The Senators collected goals from defenseman Brian Lee and center Justin Mapletoft in regulation and center Ilya Zubov scored the lone shootout tally. Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor collected the win with 26 saves. Senators goaltender Jeff Glass took the shootout loss stopping 28-of-30 shots. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-for-8 with the man advantage.

At Philadelphia (1/13): Four goals in the first period combined with four power play goals on the night elevated the Manchester Monarchs past the Philadelphia Phantoms 6-2 at the Wachovia Spectrum on Sunday evening. The Monarchs collected goals from defenseman Troy Milam, center Matt Ryan, left wing Matt Moulson (2), right wing Teddy Purcell and center David Meckler. The two tallies for the Phantoms came off the sticks of left wing Triston Grant and defenseman Alexandre Picard. Monarchs goaltender Daniel Taylor won his second consecutive game stopping 28 shots. Phantoms netminder Brian Boucher stopped 12-of-17 shots for the loss before being replaced by goaltender Scott Munroe who stopped five shots. Manchester went 4-for-9 on the power play. Philadelphia was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (18-16-4-2) moved into fifth in the Atlantic Division with 42 points.

Manchester collected six points in the first three games of a six game road trip.

The Monarchs are currently on a six game road winning streak dating back to December 22.

Manchester is winless in their last six games (0-4-1-1) at the Verizon Wireless Arena, a franchise record.

The Monarchs have a home record of 8-11-1-1 and a road record of 10-5-3-1.

The Monarchs power play remains atop the AHL with a 27.8-percentage and the penalty kill is in 29th place with 76.8-percent.

The Monarchs have the best home power play record as they have scored 28 goals on 90 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. They are ranked second on the road with a power play record of 22 goals on 90 opportunities.

Manchester has scored at least one power play goal in 13 of their 18 wins this season.

22 of the 40 Monarchs games thus far this season have been determined by one goal. The Monarchs are 10-6-4-2 in one goal games, 2-5-0-0 in two goal games, 1-4-0-0 in three goal games and 5-1-0-0 in four goal games.

Manchester is 13-2-1-0 when leading after the first period and 12-1-1-0 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first in the game, the Monarchs are 12-3-2-0.

The best day of the week for the Monarchs to play is on Saturday. The team is 9-2-2-2 in 15 Saturday games this season. The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation when they play on the road on Saturdays with a record of 4-0-2-1. Manchester is 3-3-1-1 in eight Sunday games, 0-1-0-0 on Mondays and undefeated with one win on a Tuesday. On Wednesdays, the Monarchs have a record of 0-2-0-0. In the lone Thursday game this season, the Monarchs lost in overtime. Manchester is 5-8-0-0 on Fridays thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 4-2 in shootouts this season.

Right wing Teddy Purcell (14-39=53) leads the Monarchs with 53 points in 40 games.

Purcell has scored at least one point in 31-of-40 games this season.

Purcell's 53 points are also ranked third in the AHL for overall scoring and is ranked first among rookies.

The rookie's 14 goals are tied for third place among league rookies.

His 38 assists are tied for second in the AHL in that category and also rank first among rookies.

Purcell's 25 assists on the power play are tied for first place in the AHL with defenseman Peter Harrold.

His nine power play goals are tied for fourth place overall with linemate left wing Matt Moulson. Purcell's power play tallies are also tied for second among rookies.

Gauthier (13-26=39) is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 39 points in 34 games.

Gauthier's 26 assists are ranked third on the Monarchs squad.

Gauthier has scored at least one point in 24-of-34 games this season.

Gauthier's 39 points are tied for 10th in the AHL.

Gauthier's 26 assists are also tied for 12th place in the AHL in that category.

16 of Gauthier's 26 assists this season have come on the power play which ties him for fifth place in the AHL for power play assists.

Gauthier's eight power play goals are tied for ninth place in the AHL among power play tallies.

Gauthier collected his first professional hat trick by scoring three unanswered goals in a span of seven and a half minutes in the Monarchs 3-2 overtime win against the Sharks on Saturday, December 29.

Gauthier is the latest Monarchs player to score a shorthanded goal for Manchester this season as he netted the tally against the Sharks in the 3-2 overtime win on Saturday, December 29. Gauthier joins center Trevor Lewis, center David Meckler and left wing Jeff Giuliano with shorthanded goals this season.

Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners and is ranked third on the team with 38 points (7-31=38) in 39 games.

25 of Harrold's 31 assists have come on the power play which ties him for the league lead with Purcell.

The second year defenseman is also ranked first among defensemen with 38 points and 31 assists.

Center Brian Boyle is ranked fourth on the Monarchs squad this season and ranked second among AHL rookies with 36 points (17-19=36).

Boyle is also ranked third among AHL rookies with 113 shots on goal this season.

Boyle's 11 power play goals are ranked second overall and first among rookies.

The rookie center's three game-winning goals are also tied for second place among rookies.

Boyle's 17 goals lead AHL rookies.

His 19 assists are tied for third among first year players.

Boyle's first professional hat trick on Saturday, December 22 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tied a franchise record for the most power play tallies in a game. Lewis recorded his first professional hat trick on Saturday, December 8 against the Chicago Wolves by scoring three power play tallies. Center Michael Cammalleri also scored three power play goals in the Monarchs 5-4 shootout win against Lowell on November 19, 2004.

Moulson (16-15=31) has seven goals in his last six games including two game-winners.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth is ranked 11th in the AHL in penalty minutes with 117 in 36 games. Westgarth is also ranked third among rookies in penalty minutes. He has 17 major penalties that also rank first among rookies.

Goaltender Erik Ersberg is spending the majority of time between the pipes for the Monarchs. In 24 games between the pipes, Ersberg has a record of 10-8-2, a 2.73 goals-against-average and a .903 save-percentage.

Netminder Daniel Taylor has won his last two starts in net with the Monarchs. In seven games this season, Taylor has a record of 4-2-0, 2.83 goals-against-average and a .908 save-percentage.
