Wildcats travel to Quebec

January 8, 2008 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Moncton Wildcats

The Moncton Wildcats travel on the road this week with three games in Quebec. They visit the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Thursday at the Dave Keon Arena at 7:30 p.m., then travel to the Air Creebec Centre to take on the Val-D'Or Foreurs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sunday they end their road trip at the Marcel Dionne Centre at 4:00 p.m. against the Drummondville Voltigeurs. This will be the first match up between both the Huskies and Foreurs for the Cats. The Cats are 1-0 against the Voltigeurs. Matt Eagles, Mark Barberio and Randy Cameron lead the Wildcats in scoring with 40, 27 and 20 points respectively so far this year.

LAST WEEK

Thursday January 3rd vs Cape Breton Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES:

It was a game that featured momentum swings providing loads of excitement and when the final buzzer sounded, the Moncton Wildcats had defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-4.

The first period belonged to the Cats who scored twice, Chris Morehouse with his 8th of the season at 5:08 on the power play made it 1-0, Andrew Eastman and Alexi Pianosi drew assists. Matthew Breton combined with Eastman and Pierre-Marc Lessard at 18:56 to round out scoring in the first 20 minutes.

Jordon Clendenning got his first of four for the Eagles at 12:11 of the second period, Chris Culligan and Joey Haddad helped on the power play marker. Clendenning evened the contest 31 seconds later with Haddad and Nicolas Chouinard getting the assists.

The Wildcats roared back in the third with Scott Brannon scoring an unassisted goal at 1:57. Then at 5:08 Lessard upped the Moncton lead to 4-2 with Pianosi and Brenton assisting. Clendennings notched his hat-trick at 10:02 to make it 4-3. Matt Eagles, with a great solo effort got the game winner for Moncton at 11:07. Clendenning got the Eagles to within one at 19:30 with Culligan and Chouinard assisting.

Cape Breton outshot Moncton 39-27, The Eagles were one for three on the power-play, the Wildcats one for four.

Matthew Brenton got the nod as the game's first star, Clendenning the second and Scott Brannon of the Wildcats took third star honours.

Saturday January 5th vs Halifax Moncton Coliseum 7:00PM

GAME NOTES

It took a nine round shootout for the Halifax Mooseheads to defeat the Moncton Wildcats 2-1 on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, Moncton took the lead at 12:32 of the middle frame on Scott Brannon's unassisted goal, his 5th of the season.

Eric Louis-Seize evened the contest at 8:09 of the final period with Travis Randell and Justin Pender getting the assists.

Nothing was settled in the five minutes of sudden death overtime, so the Cats and Mooseheads went to the shoot-out. The Wildcats had five opportunities to win the game but Pier-Olivier Pelletier stopped the home team from picking up the extra point. In the ninth round of the shoot out, Guillaume Monast scored on Charles Lavigne while Zach Sill had Pelletier beaten on his effort, only to sweep the puck away from the goal line with his own stick.

The Mooseheads outshot Moncton 35-16, with each team going 0 for 3 on the powerplay.

Lavigne was named the first star, while Monast and Ryan Hillier picked up the second and third stars for Halifax.

Sunday January 6th vs Acadie Bathurst Moncton Coliseum 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats won another installment of the Battle of New Brunswick with a 3-1 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.

Scott Brannon scored at 1:41 of the first to give the Cats a lead they never relinquished, David Savard got the assist. Zack Sill with his 12th of the season from Chris Morehouse at 18:21 sent Moncton to the dressing room with a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes.

A short handed goal on a great effort by Pierre-Marc Lessard at 13:36 of the second period increased the Wildcats lead to 3-0, Mark Barberio set up the Lassard goal.

In the final twenty minutes, Bathurst made it a 3-1 game with Drew Paris netting his 11th of the season from Ryan Graham and Mathieu Perreault.. The Titan dominated the period, outshooting the Wildcats 19-5 and 36-21 over the game. Both teams went 0 for 5 with the man advantage.

Zach Sill was picked as the first star, he scored the game winning goal. Charles Lavigne was the second star, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced and Drew Paris of the Titan was star number three.

Thursday January 10th vs Rouyn-Noranda Dave Keon Arena 7:30PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Thursday at the Dave Keon Arena. The Huskies are currently 2nd in the Telus division with 59 points. The Wildcats will try to improve their 8th place in the Eastern division with 41 points. Jeff Desjardins leads the Huskies with 11 goals, 36 assists and 47 points in 43 games so far this season, including 4 power play goals.

Friday January 11th vs Val-D'Or Air Creebec Centre 7:30PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Val-D'Or Foreurs. The Foreurs are 8th in the Telus division with 40 points. Marc-André Côté leads the Foreurs with 20 goals, 27 assists and 47 points in 44 games so far this season, including 7 power play goals.

Sunday January 13th vs Drummondville Marcel Dionne Centre 4:00PM

GAME NOTES:

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Drummondville Voltigeurs. The Voltigeurs are 10th in the Telus division with 19 points. Garrett Peters leads the Voltigeurs with 14 goals, 14 assists and 28 points in 43 games so far this season, including 7 power play goals.
