
Morrison move highlights last day of trades

BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - Several teams made moves prior to today's noon deadline. In one of the most surprising deals of the New Year, the PEI Rocket sent forward Brett Morrison (87-07-25) to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for Dylan Quaile (88-11-12), Benjamin Casavant (91-01-21) and a second round pick in 2009. Morrison, who was drafted in the fifth round by the Anaheim Ducks in last year's NHL Entry Draft, is tied for sixth in the QMJHL scoring standings with 57 points. The Huskies kept busy by acquiring goaltender Maxim Gougeon (88-05-03) from the Voltigeurs for winger David Shea (89-03-30) and their first round selection in 2008.
In other moves, the Voltigeurs landed goaltender Michaël Dupont (87-12-20) from the Océanic for an eighth round pick (acquired from Val-d'Or) in 2008. The Screaming Ealges acquired left-winger Pierre-Olivier Payment (90-04-04) and a fourth round pick in 2008 from the Olympiques for forward Alexandre Quesnel (89-11-03). Moreover, the Wildcats sent Murdock MacLellan (88-05-31) to the Screaming Eagles for a fourth round pick in 2009.
The Rocket traded defenseman Benoit Gervais (88-05-05) to the Océanic for blueliner Philippe Garnier (89-01-04).
The Foreurs sent Francis Desrosiers (89-06-27) to the Olympiques for an eighth round pick (acquired from Lewiston) in 2008. Gatineau also sent Vincent Lavigueur (89-02-14) to Cape Breton for a seventh round pick in 2008.
Finally, the Foreurs sent a sixth round pick in 2009 to the Cataractes for forward Tommy Samson (90-03-03).
