New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - In an impressive all around effort the New Jersey Jackals spoiled the Atlantic City Surf's Yogi Berra Stadium debut by defeating the Surf, 8-2.
Mike Vicaro took the ball from Joe Calfapietra and was instrumental in driving the Jackals to their second straight victory. Through seven full innings, Vicaro allowed just two earned runs on four hits. Kevin Ool and Justin Garza combined for a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.
Offensively the Jackals got off to an early lead thanks to an RBI single by first baseman Matt Lauderdale, scoring right fielder Francisco Leandro and left fielder Jud Thigpen.
They struck again in the top of the second on an RBI single by centerfielder Zack Smithlin, driving in short stop Guillermo Reyes.
The Surf made it interesting in the fifth inning on an RBI single by center fielder Lucas Taylor as well as an RBI triple by third baseman Anthony Granato.
With the lead cut down to 3-2 the Jackals distanced themselves in the bottom of the sixth on a two-RBI single by third baseman Wilton Veras. Joe Mihalics put the game away for good in the eighth on a two-RBI double. He would come around to score on a single by Smithlin.
Vicaro was on the winning end of an 8-2 victory, defeating Coogie Freedman of the Surf.
