(NASHUA, NH, July 30, 2007) The Nashua Pride announced today that they have signed the number one overall pick from the 2007 Cam-Am League Draft, Abel Gomez. Additionally, the Pride have acquired Tommy Rojas from Bridgeport of the Atlantic League.

The top choice for the Pride, Gomez, has spent part of the 2007 season with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League (A), an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The 6-foot lefthanded pitcher played last year for the Yankees Class A farm team, the Charleston Riverdogs in the South Atlantic League. In 72 innings of work, the Santo Domingo native was just shy of the strikeout per inning mark with 69 Ks. In six years in the minors, he has seen 410.1 innings of work and struck out 425 en route to a 19-23 record.

Rojas was originally selected by the Yankees in the 30th round of the 2000 draft. He has spent six seasons in professional baseball accumulating a career .272 average, 74 doubles, 195 RBI and 28 home runs in 405 games played.

Last season, for the Pride, Rojas hit .320 with 13 doubles, 5 HR and 27 RBI in 58 games. After Nashua's season finished in 2006, the Nevada native joined the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League where he hit .239 with an additional 5 HR and 9 RBI in just 14 games.

To make room on the roster, the Pride have placed pitcher Jim Mann on the disabled list (shoulder) and have placed 3B/OF Matt Creighton on waivers due to a knee injury. Creighton is expected to return to the Pride roster once he recovers from the injury.

The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its tenth anniversary season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The Pride is participating in its second year of play in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
