New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Mike DiFelice drilled a pair of home runs and drove home six runs as the Zephyrs defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 14-4 in game one of a doubleheader at Isotopes Park. New Orleans had a 7-4 lead in the seventh inning when the Z's sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the inning. New Orleans had a season high four home runs in the game. Jason Alfaro drilled a three run home run in the second inning to give the Z's the early lead. Mike DiFelice had a pair of two run homers in the third and sixth inning. Jake Gautreau capped the day with a three run bomb in the seventh. Mike Pelfrey pitched six innings and earned his third win for New Orleans. Former UL Lafayette star and the newest Zephyr Corey Coles hit his first career Triple-A hit a RBI single in the seventh inning. The Z's trail in the series two games to one and trail the Isotopes by a half game for the division lead.
Game Notes: Z's snapped a season high six game road losing streak ..... The Z's had the best road record in the league prior to the streak ...Mike DiFelice had the Zephyrs third multi home run game of the season.... DiFelice drove home a season best six runs .... The Zephyrs added David Newhan from the New York Mets and placed outfielder Ben Johnson on the disabled list with a bruised wrist. Johnson has not played since July 8th when he was hit by a pitch. Newhan was batting .200 (12x60) with a homer and 13 RBI in 45 games with the Mets.
Coming Up: The Z's and Isotopes will play the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday evening and will wrap up the series on Monday at 8:00 PM. The fifth and final game of the series will feature the Z's starting former isotope Jason Vargas against Daniel Barone. New Orleans returns home on Tuesday to open a eight game homestand.
