Whitecaps Defeat Beloit in Third Straight Extra-Inning Game

COMSTOCK PARK - West Michigan and Beloit did not disappoint in game three of their series as Whitecaps DH Scott Sizemore scored on a dropped ball by the pitcher during a rundown to give the ‘Caps a 2-1 victory in 11 innings.

The Whitecaps were shutout all game until the bottom of the ninth inning when pinch hitter James Skelton singled to center field that scored Sizemore from second to tie the game at one apiece.

The next run didn't come until the bottom of the 11th when Sizemore led off with a single into right field. Two batters later, Santo De Leon singled to right field, sending Sizemore to third base. After a pitching change for Beloit, Jose Lugo faced Deik Scram with one out and runners at the corners. The Whitecaps went for a squeeze play, the Snappers pitched out and caught Sizemore in a rundown. Lugo came over on the rundown and dropped the ball allowing Sizemore to score to give the Caps the win.

Casey Fien (4-0) received the win for a scoreless inning of work while Jesus Carnevales (3-3) suffered the loss for putting Sizemore on base in the 11th.

Beloit starter Tyler Robertson mowed down the ‘Caps for 7.2 scoreless innings for the no-decision while Whitecaps starter Lauren Gagnier limited the Snappers to one run in 7.0 innings on just three hits.

This was the third straight night that Beloit and West Michigan went into extra innings. The last time the Whitecaps went to extra frames three straight games was on July 26-28, 2000.
