Brandon Cullen Returns To The Checkers

Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Last season, Brandon Cullen lost an entire year of hockey due to a concussion sustained during the last NHL exhibition game with the New York Islanders. Now, Cullen is returning to the place where he started his pro career and a city he calls home.

The St. Catharines, Ontario native signed a two-way contract with the Islanders last season but never played in any regular season games with the club or its AHL affiliate because of a season ending hit to the head.

The Checkers announced today that the 26-year-old forward has agreed to terms with the team and Cullen says he is happy to be concentrating on playing in Charlotte again, "Last season was tough being out an entire year. It's not easy for any player. This year will be great because I can focus on playing my best hockey in Charlotte; a place I've loved to play over the past four seasons."

Head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson says that Cullen possesses great qualities that are hard to find, "Brandon is a fan favorite who has a rare combination of both toughness and skill."

The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL in October 2007. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three-consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399. The Checkers are accepting deposits on all ticket packages. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
