Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs poured on the offense on Friday night, beating Tulsa 8-0 and securing a playoff spot in the Northern Conference.

A penalty-ridden first period allowed the Bugs a lengthy five-on-three power play opportunity. Cam Abbott scored at the tail end of the power play from the goal line, lofting the puck over top of Tulsa goaltender Bill Ruggiero.

The Bugs unloaded their offense in the second period. Cam Abbott scored again on the power play to open up the flood gates ten minutes into the second period. Chris Brassard scored even strength at 13:53, scoring his 23rd goal of the season. The Bugs scored one more time when Ryan Fairbarn sent a laser top shelf before the period expired.

The Mudbugs continued to the route with four third period goals. Cam Abbott scored once and Ryan Fairbarn scored twice to complete hat tricks for both. Dan Wildfong's goal was the final straw for Bill Ruggiero. He started punching Wildfong, then got involved in a full blown tilt with Chris Brassard. Ruggiero was kicked out of the game. Tulsa Head Coach Butch Kaebel was later ejected after some crazy antics from the bench. He placed a white towel on top of a hockey stick and waved his surrender to the officials.

In the end, John DeCaro secured his first shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots on goal.
