The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will hold "Pink Rink Night" to honor breast cancer and other cancer survivors and benefit the American Cancer Society on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m., when the Sound Tigers host the Springfield Falcons at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Fans will have an opportunity to help the Sound Tigers take a shot at fighting cancer. Several promotional activities, including a 50-50 raffle, the popular Chuck-a-Puck contest and pink stick auction of player-used sticks will raise money for the American Cancer Society.

American Cancer Society fund-raising groups have an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets and be recognized by the public address announcer on the Arena's digital display boards throughout the game.

"The fundraising is so important for research," said Sound Tigers Assistant Coach Joe Ferras, who lost both of his parents to cancer - his mother to breast cancer at age 47 and his father to lung cancer at age 74.

"It's such an insidious disease - a disease that effects so many," said Ferras, adding that his friend and former teammate in Milan, Italy, Larry Rucchin, died of colon cancer. "You hope in our lifetime there's a cure for all these types of cancer."

To help the Sound Tigers and American Cancer Society continue the battle against cancer, fund-raising groups should call 334-4625 and mention "ACS - Pink Rink Night," or fill out the "Pink Rink Night" form on the Sound Tigers' Web site, soundtigers.com or the American Cancer Society's site, cancer.org.
