Mallards Record 4-0-0 in Pivotal Week

Moline, IL-The Mallards head into the final week of 2005-06 in the seventh spot in the UHL post-season race. Quad City went 4-0-0 last week to move past Richmond and Motor City and into a playoff position. The Mallards begin this week with a four point edge over Richmond, the team currently in ninth. Quad City is two points up on Motor City for the seventh seed. The Mallards trail Fort Wayne by just two points for second in the Western Division and the sixth seed overall.

The Mallards host Richmond in the home finale for 2005-06 on Friday at The MARK. A win over the RiverDogs will clinch the Mallards 11th consecutive playoff berth. On Saturday, the team heads to Flint for the final regular season game of 2005-06.

The Mallards wrap up their home schedule for 2005-06 by hosting the Richmond RiverDogs. A Mallards win will clinch a spot in the post-season. It's also Fan Appreciation Night presented by Dick N Sons Lumber of Bluegrass, Iowa.

Season Ticket Holder Buddy Nights

The final Mallards "Buddy Night" of 2005-06 is scheduled for April 14th vs. Richmond. On this special night, season ticket holders will receive a voucher for one free upper bowl ticket for every ticket they hold. These seats can be upgraded to lower bowl tickets for just $5.

The Mallards close out 2005-06 with a match-up vs. the Flint Generals. The storied rivalry has been very competitive this year as the Mallards are 3-2-2 vs. Flint.

The Maroon Mortgage Pre-Game Show is on the air 25 minutes prior to face-off on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. During the intermissions, stay tuned for the Swiss Valley Farms Intermission Report. After the game, the All-State Insurance Christy Cox Post-Game Show will air.

Wednesday, April 5th-Fort Wayne 3 at Quad City 4---Shootout

After storming out to a 3-0 lead, the Mallards held on Wednesday night for a 4-3 shootout win over Fort Wayne. Quad City rolled to a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Chad Woollard, Matt Radoslovich and Jeff Petruic. Woollard's goal, his 43rd of the year, came just 3:06 into the game. At the 16:37 mark, Radoslovich deflected a Steve O'Rourke point shot for his 22nd tally of the year. With just 1:34 left in the opening period, Petruic scored on a Mallards power play to stretch the lead to 3-0. The goal was the 699th point of Petruic's professional career. In the second, the Komets began slicing away at the Mallards lead on a power-play goal by Josh Tataryn. Guy Dupuis scored on a power-play with 5:03 left in the third to cut the Quad City lead to one at 3-2. Fort Wayne pulled Kevin St. Pierre in the closing minutes in favor of the sixth attacker and the strategy paid off as Jonathan Goodwin tipped home Dupuis' point shot to tie the game with two seconds left. In the shootout, the Komets took a 1-0 lead in the fourth round on a goal by Ryan Jorde. After the next two shooters failed to light the lamp, Patrick Nadeau came up in the fifth round as the Mallards last hope. The captain beat St. Pierre to extend the shootout. After a scoreless sixth round, Jason Tapp denied Jonathan Goodwin in the top of the seventh before J.J. Wrobel scored in the bottom of the frame to earn the win.

Friday, April 7th-Quad City 2 at Rockford 1---Shootout

The Mallards gained control of their own playoff fate with a thrilling 2-1 shootout victory over Rockford on Friday night at The Metrocentre. Jeff Petruic recorded the regulation goal, the 700th point of his career while Jason Tapp made 29 saves to earn his 31st win. The game was also the 400th of Chad Woollard's professional career. After a scoreless first period, the teams exchanged second period power-play goals to leave the game tied at one after two periods. Jeff Petruic opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the year on a Mallards man advantage at 4:27 of the middle period. The goal was also the 700th point of Petruic pro career. The Hogs answered back on a power-play point shot by defenseman Matt Gens. The rearguard's marker tied the contest at a goal apiece. The teams skated scoreless through the third period as well forcing a shootout for the second consecutive Mallards contest. Rockford struck first in the shootout as Greg Barber scored in the first round. After stoning the first three Mallards shooters, Rockford's Ron Vogel allowed goals to Rafal Martynowski in the fourth round and Patrick Nadeau in the fifth round. Meanwhile, Tapp went on to stop the final four Rockford shooters to earn the win.

Saturday, April 8th-Motor City 0 at Quad City 1

The Mallards secured their 38th win of 2005-06 with a 1-0 victory over Motor City on Saturday at The MARK. Jason Tapp made 31 saves to earn his fifth shutout in the win. Patrick Nadeau scored the lone goal in the win. After a scoreless first, Nadeau recorded the game's first goal at 5:29 of the middle period. Nadeau's goal was the 20th of the season, and he becomes the sixth Mallard this year to reach the 20-goal mark. Tapp made 24 saves in the final two periods to earn the win. It was the 32nd win of the year for the Mallards netminder.

Sunday, April 9th-Fort Wayne 2 at Quad City 3----Shootout

For the second time in five days, the Mallards earned a shootout win over the Fort Wayne Komets to continue to gain ground in the hunt for a UHL playoff position. Joel Pullman and Steve O'Rourke scored the regulation tallies for the Mallards in the 3-2 shootout win. Jason Tapp was strong in net again as he made 31 saves to earn the win. In the first, Fort Wayne jumped to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Lance Galbraith just 37 seconds into the game. Pullman answered Galbraith's marker with his third goal of the year at 8:50 of the opening period. Glenn Detulleo dug the puck out of the right wing corner before feeding Pullman in front. The teams exchanged goals again in the second as Rob Guinn scored at 7:28 of the middle period to put Fort Wayne back in front at 2-1. Less than five minutes later, O'Rourke scored on a wraparound chance to tie the game. After a scoreless third, the teams headed to a shootout for the third time this year. Chad Woollard and Detulleo scored in the shootout while Tapp denied all four shooters he faced.

Player of the Week

Steve O'Rourke is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He recorded four points (a goal and three assists) in four games last week.

Goalie of the Week

Jason Tapp is the UHL Goaltender of the Week. The Kelowna, British Columbia native went 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .957 save percentage last week.
