Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Jamie Holden made 40 saves and J.F. Plourde scored the decisive goal in the shootout as the Fresno Falcons defeated the Bakersfield Condors, 2-1, in front of 9,891 at Save Mart Center.
Bakersfield jumped out in front first with a power play goal 4:28 into the game. Holden made an initial save off a shot from the point but couldn't stop a rebound off the stick of Jason Norrie.
The Condors took their 1-0 lead to the second, but Fresno began the period with a power play. Just 22 seconds in, Plourde found Pete Fregoe at the base of the right circle, who snapped a one-timer past Bakersfield goaltender Ryan Munce for his 12th of the season.
Those were the only two goals scored by the teams in regulation. Holden successfully bounced back from a disastrous game last night, when he stopped just one of four shots before being replaced in a 7-2 loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers. His 40 saves were a new team season-high as Fresno was out-shot 41-33.
After neither team scored in overtime, Cory Murphy led off the shootout with a goal for Fresno before former Falcon Scott Borders evened the tie-breaker with a goal in the third round. Holden would make two more stops, setting the stage for Plourde, who beat Munce with a wrist shot to the glove side.
The victory was Fresno's 20th of the year, moving the club to 20-6-8 with 48 points. The team leads the Pacific Division by eight points over the Long Beach Ice Dogs and remains undefeated against divisional foes with a record of 11-0-2.
The Falcons return to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. when they take on the Florida Everblades. The game is a Carl's Jr. Two-for-Tuesday, with two-for-one coupons available at participating Carl's Jr. restaurants.
Individual tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office with prices ranging from $8 - $22.
