August 9, 2005 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release
Erie, PA - The Erie SeaWolves will be giving out a Rudy the Gorilla Bobblehead doll to the first 2,000 fans on Friday August 12, 2005 when the gates open at 6:00 p.m. The SeaWolves will take on the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park.
When Rudy, a male Western lowland gorilla, joined the Erie Zoo in 1987 he quickly became the Zoo s most famous resident. Rudy could often be seen showing off his unique personality and making faces at zoo visitors. On March 8 2005, Rudy died peacefully in his sleep at age 49 as the oldest male Western lowland gorilla in captivity. During his time at the Erie Zoo, Rudy enjoyed watching National Geographic videos and the world outside of his exhibit. Rudy left behind Samantha, a 41 year-old female lowland gorilla. The Zoo is currently searching for a new companion for Samantha.
SeaWolves General Manager John Frey added We were excited to team up with the Erie Zoo to recognize and pay tribute to what was a unique and time-honored Erie treasure. Erie will miss Rudy greatly, but hopefully will remain in the Erie tradition through means such as this bobblehead. We are ecstatic to be working with a group like the Erie Zoo because we recognize the cultural significance they have in the Erie community.
Individual game tickets can be purchased at the box office at Jerry Uht Park, over the phone at (814) 456-1300, and on the Internet at www.seawolves.com.
