Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons open up a four-game home-and-home series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons with the set opener at Lackawanna County Stadium (7:00 p.m.). After tonight and tomorrow's game in Pennsylvania, the series will shift to Buffalo for the final two games. The Herd comes into tonight looking to bounce back from a pair of losses that closed out an otherwise very successful homestand. The Bisons were 6-2 on the stand, increasing their lead in the IL North division to 7.5 games. Tonight, LHP Billy Traber will start for Buffalo. Traber won his last start, scattering 10 hits over seven innings for a win on Thursday. He'll be up against fellow lefty and former Bison Mike Bacsik. Bacsik worked just two innings in a no-decision against the Columbus Clippers on Thursday (6H, 7R, 4ER).
VS. RED BARONS: This is the second series between the Bisons and Red Barons this season. From May 3-6, the Herd won three games of a four-game series at Dunn Tire Park despite being outscored 24-20. Dating back to 2003, the Bisons have not lost any of their last eight series with Scranton/W-B (7 wins, 1 split) while posting a 19-7 record in the last 26 games.
AMAZING PRODUCTION: Bisons' slugger Jeff Liefer is the latest Bison to join the 50RBI-club this year. With his 50th and 51st RBI last night, he joins Ernie Young (62), Andy Abad (54) and Mike Kinkade (50) in the group. In the entire International League, there are only seven batters with 50+ RBI and four are Buffalo Bisons. Ryan Garko (47) could also join the group soon.
HIT STREAK: Bisons' slugger Mike Kinkade picked up a double last night to extend his hitting streak to nine games (longest current streak on the team). Since June 19, Kinkade has hit .324 (11-34). Most of the damage was done on the Bisons recent homestand, where he hit .333 (10-30) with six doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and 10 runs scored.
HITS RACE: Infielder Brandon Phillips picked up a pair of singles yesterday to pull even with Mike Kinkade for the team lead with 80 hits. The two hits also ties Phillips with catcher Ryan Garko for the team lead of 23 multi-hit games.
RARE PAIR: The Bisons have lost two straight, but back-to-back defeats have been pretty rare for the Herd this year. Buffalo is 21-8 following a loss this season.
