Hawaiian Islanders Lose Klaneski, Ramos

The Hawaiian Islanders today announced that two players will undergo surgeries, which will cast doubt on their availability for the remainder of the season. Defensive specialist Eddie Klaneski and lineman Andy Ramos will have surgery on June 23 and 29th respectively.
Klaneski suffered a knee injury on April 30 when Hawaii faced Bossier-Shreveport. An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan taken on his right knee indicated a slight tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). After six weeks of rehabilitation, it was determined that surgery would be necessary. Klaneski led the team with 18 solos and 12 assists before suffering the injury. He was Hawaii's defensive player of the year in 2003 leading the team with 54 solo tackles and 36 assists.
Ramos suffered a torn meniscus in left knee in last week's 70-42 win over Central Valley. Team doctors indicated his injury would keep him out at least a minimum of 6-8 weeks. What makes this injury significant is this will end his streak playing in every Hawaiian Islanders game since its inception in 2002 spanning a total of 44 games.
The arenafootball2 league today announced the assignment of Joe Siofele to the Islanders. Siofele is regarded as one of the top high school players to come out of Hawaii in recent years. He was a 1999 graduate of St. Louis High School where he earned three letters in football, basketball and track and field. He was named Parade Magazine All-American as well as by numerous other publications.
The Islanders also activated defensive specialist and newcomer Halakilangi Muagututia (5-11, 210 lbs.). Muagututia played with Central Valley earlier this year and spent time with two other Arena Football League teams. He played his college career at the University of Texas-El Paso. To make room on the roster, Hawaii reassigned Desmond Maul.
The Hawaiian Islanders (6-4) are tied atop the af2 West Division with the Bakersfield Blitz. Hawaii hosts the San Diego Riptide (4-5) this Saturday at the Blaisdell Arena. In celebration of Father's Day presented by Geico Insurance, fans will receive a 50 percent discount off their general admission ticket when they show their Geico Insurance card.
Hawaii hopes to avenge their 91-77 home loss to San Diego two weeks ago. The 168 points is the highest scoring game in af2 history. The two teams will meet again in two weeks (July 3) in San Diego.
